Brookside Café & Restaurant

A friendly place to stop when it was pouring with rain and blowing us off our feet. Several other cafes in above turned us away with the dog but Brookside welcomed us with open arms. Super friendly staff with warm smiles that made us feel very welcome. Food was hot, well cooked, served quickly and was plentiful - it also tasted superb. The breakfast wasn’t greasy and the toast was hot! My wife had corned beef hash and eggs and said she felt 8 years old again, old school comfort food.

Good choice of tea - not just your regular fruit or herbal: but Assam, Darjeeling, Earl Grey etc… (I prefer my tea in a mug: however, it was served in a cup & saucer - and the cup was hot! A very nice touch indeed.)

Dropped in at 11:30 on a Sunday on the off-chance that they could fit us in for a coffee and cake - most of the cafes were closed and it was raining. They put us on a table that was reserved for lunch at 12:30 which was perfect. We both had a large coffee and a caramel shortbread which was very nice - I had started eating it before remembering to take a picture. Staff were very nice. They were fully booked for lunch which is always a good recommendation. The menu from breakfast through to dinner looked good. Based upon our limited experience we would recommend this place.

My partner and I visited Brookside Cafe today for the first time.
The welcome we received from the owners and staff was very warm and friendly.
We both enjoyed the full cooked breakfast. We could tell the products used were of good quality, the bacon and sausages were particularly tasty.
We shall return to try some of the offerings from the lunch menu.

Visited today on recommendation from a couple we met in a coffee shop. An absolute gem of a place. I had the crayfish salad and friend had the cold meat platter. Both had dessert. The food was amazing and the service to match(thanks Sophie) .Will definitely be back.

Went to Dartmoor to explore and stay over on Saturday night. Put into google local cafes open on Sundays. The Brookside Cafe came up and we put it on our maps. When we walked through the door we have a warm and lovely welcome, and was shown to our table. Good sized menu to choose from. Me and my partner both had the breakfast cook with a pot of tea and coffee. It was the best breakfast I’ve had in a long time. Definitely recommend and will definitely be coming back.

Lovely cafe with excellent service provided by any of the staff. Food was very good and came quickly after ordering. Attention to detail high on agenda and visit from start to finish was faultless. Highly recommended.

First time here and it's such a lovely cafe to have a cuppa or munch on brunch. The menu has plenty of options and the staff are very friendly. They have indoor and outdoor seating with freshly made cakes for your mouth to salivate over. Highly recommended if you are in the area. It can be busy but worth the wait!

Superb cafe. Ample tables, fast friendly service and quality food. Lots of clean plates by the end and prices about average. Great bakery across the road too.

Delicious meal, generous portions, local ingredients, plenty of green veg (not just the overused chips), not overpriced, very attentive waiting staff. All that in a lovely garden, on a warm sunny day, under a decent-sized parasol.

Found these guys while looking for a lunchtime snack on a damp day.
A busy and thriving cafe/restaurant with good attention to detail, varied menu, good coffee and attentive professional staff who attend in and outdoors.
Enough space between tables to be comfortable and not colliding with others getting in to them.
The rear entrance is level through double doors for less able visitors in wheelchairs.
Small step at the front entrance easily negotiated with care.
Outside seating available (not used that day as it was bucketing down !)
Dog friendly inside and out which is important for many.
Good size portions of fresh cooked food in a short timeframe even when fairly busy.
Very reasonable prices with offerings of local jams or chutneys plus cakes of all sorts at the till point.
A very enjoyable experience especially on a run out to Trago.

We landed on this place one weekday afternoon, it looked lovely as a garden suncatcher in the late afternoon sun. The waitress was very helpful and attentive, promptly clearing our desired table which had just been vacated and taking our order. The lunch of coronation chicken sandwich with side and crisps was delivered in no time. It was a very wealthy portion and tasted delicious. We washed it down with an ale. Lovely place, was very impressed and would definitely return

Called in for a quick snack after a walk. The food was great. We both had the sausage baguette. Fantastic quality sausage and bread. Excellent, friendly staff and the toilets were spotless.

Lovely food with a good range, although it can be on the expensive side. Service and staff were friendly, seemed to be popular with the older generations. Parking available at the back.

On a Not planned Trip To Bovey we popped Into The BROOKSIDE CAFÉ & RESTAURANT......Well what a Fabulous Choice 🥰 Firstly we didnt Book !!! On a Sunday its Best to if it's a Roast you Desire.. From the Minute you step Inside your Welcomed , The Aroma of the Roast was Inviting and From seeing what was Served its No Wonder it was spaciously packed with Happy People 🙂.
We How Ever wanted a CREAM TEA & A CHEESE SCONE TEA...From the pictures you will see How AMAZING it was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS 😋 ❤.
