Historic structure worth a visit: ideal Sunday drive out or take the children and show them history. The drive is 6 miles of beautiful tiny country roads after the turn off from A465. The hotel owns the ruins so you are going in the hotel entrance to get access. Stunning stonework and details. Hotel has a cafe but we headed 6 miles up the road to the [famous] Inn and had lunch there. About an hour to take it all in. Photos give an indication of what you'll see there. First photo is the main entrance.

Remote. And that's part of the attraction. It's not just the ruins themselves, which I'll talk about in a sec, it's also the location and the feeling of the place which all add up together to make this place such a good visit. The ruins are of a once very impressive priory dating back to the 11thC there's enough left of them to cast a really evocative atmosphere, but as I said it's the combination of priory, remote location, and the feeling of the place which makes it special. Quite honestly it's one of the best things I've seen and done in Wales ... but then again I'm not put off by mile upon mile of steep single lane roads to get there!

Free parking, great walks in the area, a pub in the cellar of the hotel (which is built into the rooms) - what more could you want? Interesting and informative information panels dotted through the priory ruins as well.

Just beautiful, stunning location. Such a lovely place to go for a walk in the black mountains, with the Priory in the valley. Free parking.

The pub here is a super old, rustic and a proper snug. The grounds of the ancient Abbey is also super cool. Beautiful architecture and with super countryside views all round. The grounds are a great picnic spot and there is a large nearby car park. No phone signal though…but that can be a good thing!

Excellent starting place for hiking in the Black Mountains! It has free parking, toilets, a small cafe. The priory grounds make for a great picnic area with stunning views of the Vale of Ewyas and Hatterrall Hill.

Gorgeous place with tons of history and a wonderful loop trail. The pub on site served me the most refreshing cider of my life! Get a pint of Robinsons and enjoy the beauty!

Brilliant ruin and well worth a visit. Good small pub/cafe too.
Worth noting that they have quite strict rules, mainly:
No Dogs (except guide dogs), No smoking, No bikes, No Drones, No Picnics (within the grounds).
All of the above is a shame but there is bike and free car parking very close by, and free public toilets . Plus fields galore to picnic in, just not in the grounds of the ruin.

Considering this is a ruin it is so beautiful here! The Abbey is in a peaceful and tranquil valley surrounded by the green hills. Great places to hike with the reward of amazing views, well worth the effort! There is a small cafe that serves very nice hot food, snacks and drinks. We went as a family and all enjoyed eating our food outside sitting on the ruins with only the sound of birds and sheep bleating in the pastures. Watch out for the very tame little birds that will try to steal your food if you are not looking, the grandchildren loved it! Toilets are on site.

These delightful remains of a once great priory sit in a peaceful and secluded location surrounded by hills. Definitely worth a visit if in the area.

Car parking is quite spacious and free. Toilet facilities on site.
Inside the priory, please be aware dogs are not allowed. Chain up area offered by front gate. Picnics are not allowed on grounds either.

The drive to the location was lovely and picturesque. Take care when driving as road can be narrow, however there are plenty of layby areas along the route.

Be sure to stop by the Skirrid Inn before or after visiting the priory. Note the inn is closed between 2:30-5:30.

There is a tea room here and toilet facilities. I do not want to spoil the grandure of this place. We went in the spring time, the weather was just warming. The ruins are amazing, my father said to me "you'll not find a place like this". I'm inclined to agree with his statement as there isnothing that really compares. Make this a must on a visit, although I would say no longer than half a day spent.

Gorgeous abbey ruins! Great location amongst the mountains. Very quiet and peaceful. Great hiking trails around. Quaint bar and restaurant. Toilet facilities. Free car park. On way to Hay Bluff mountains. Narrow roads in places so take care.

A lovely spot, in a peaceful and tranquil valley. The abbey is small, but it makes for a good place to poke your nose into as part of a day out in the area.

Lovely old ruin in a secluded valley next to Offa's Dyke. Nice cafe/pub in the cellar of the adjacent hotel. Spectacular views from the nearby hills.

Lovely place to visit. It's attached to a b&b with a little pub. Part of a walking route. Definitely worth going to see if you are in the area. There's also a small free carpark right next to it with some public toilets there as well.
