Barrage Vauban also named as Vauban Dam. It was erected in 17th century on the River Ill. The barrage has 13 arches and is 120 metres (390 ft) in length. The viewing terrace on its roof, with views of the earlier Ponts Couverts bridges and Petite France quarter. It is now a historical monument.

Beautiful view of the towers and the Cathedral. You can go upstairs up until 5pm I think.

This is quite a relaxing place to enjoy in Strasbourg. Although it’s quite a historical dam, defense system built in the 17th century, and a short walk from the busier La Petit France, this area is a bit quieter and perfect for a stroll or sitting down on the benches and enjoying the serenity surrounding this area. There are several cafes and restaurants nearby as well. You could also take the boat rides along the river Ill (if you had the time) that goes around this area.

Great sights, almost in the heart of Strasbourg. From here you have a great view of the city and the water canals. It's also an important link across the river. Entrance is free of charge.

With a cool history it also provides a great location to take breathtaking pictures. It provides the convenience to walk or take a bike inside the barrage and also one can climb the terrace for a good view. It has both lift and stairs to go to the terrace.

Barrage Vauban in Strasbourg (France) is an amazing site to explore European history from the 12th-15th century, mesmerizing old style designed homes, enjoying the markets full of souvenirs and taste the food from across the World. Had a great time during our visit here. There is also a big Cathedral here, one of the highest in France

This bridge has a lovely terrace on the top. Great to relax, admire the views and take great pictures of “petite France”. It’s free.

This 17th century dam was part of the Strasbourg's defense system. It is 120 meters long and comprises 13 arches. There is a panoramic deck on the roof of the dam that was built in 1950s to offer a high-angle view of the city. The dam is located right in front of the Modern and Contemporary Museum of Strasbourg with its huge steel-and glass façade. The admission to the upper viewing deck of the dam is free.

Beautiful historical dam in Strasbourg city. You can have view from top and also there are sculptures/statues kept in the lower area.
From top you can get the clear view of La Petite.
There are also some boat trip agencies to give you some boat trips. Have a look at the photos to refer more.

In a single word: IMPRESSIVE!
The Vauban Dam, is a remarkable landmark here. It’s a bridge and a defensive structure designed by the legendary French military engineers in history: Sébastien Vauban.
By raising the water level , the dam could easily flood the surrounding lands, creating an impassable barrier for any attacking forces. This tactic was even used during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870.
Today, the stands still as a beautiful classified historical monument that’s is absolutely a must see while in the city.

The Barrage was built in the 17th century as a bridge and defensive structure. Today people come here for the beautiful view.
From the Barrage, enjoy views of the covered bridge, La Petite France and even Strasbourg Cathedral.

You get to see the beautiful buildings in the surrounding area from the roof. I recommend coming here on a sunny day to get the best view. It is possible to go for a trip in a boat to better see the place.

The best view of Pont Couverts is from the panoramic terrace. Free to enter with a public toilet on the ground floor.
The history of the dam is interesting too.
