Château d'Angers, situated by the Maine River, is a captivating blend of history and aesthetics. The crowning glory is the remarkable Apocalypse Tapestry, an intricate medieval masterpiece that unfolds a dramatic narrative with vibrant colors. The tapestry alone makes the visit worthwhile. Additionally, the castle offers a delightful surprise with its charming garden—a peaceful retreat surrounded by the imposing stone walls. Together, the awe-inspiring tapestry and the serene garden create a harmonious experience, making Château d'Angers a must-visit for those seeking a captivating blend of art and nature.

I'm so thankful I made the time to visit Chateau d'Angers! This medieval fortress is definitely something to be seen while in Angers France. We were able to purchase affordable tickets on site. There is no need to order in advance. The immense tapestry of the apocalypse is absolutely amazing! We were in a bit of a hurry, so we opted out of using the audio guide. I wish we had more time to listen in detail! The views from outside the Chateau are lovely! You can walk the wall easily. It's a great place to take photos too! I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of my visit.

Very accessible for English speaking guests, rich history dating all the way back to 11th Century brought to life in this stunning citadel/palace: home of Kings and Queens and a sometime prison, overlooking the Maine river. The Apocalypse Tapestries were amazing - 700 years old and beautifully preserved in a specialist room within the Château

Absolutely stunning group of buildings forming the royal palace in the centre of Angers, this is "must see" if you are in the area. The apocalypse tapestry is an incredible piece of weaving (a sort of medieval graphic novel).

Love this 13th century castle. The Apocalypse tapestry is a must see. The castle was well maintained and not scary to explore alone, with companion would be merrier :) 😀

A very big, beautiful castle to visit at Angers with a lot of history. We first visited the castle and had a drink next to the gardens, which was very relaxing. The steps upwards allow you to walk around on the wall towers, which is so beautiful and big. It gives you a wonderful view over the river and the rest of the castle. The castle and chapel inside are really nice and the apocalypse exhibition is wonderful.

I got into Angers only at 8pm, so the castle has closed for the day. It’s still a beautiful sunset visit, to learn about the medieval historical from the bilingual demonstration outside the castle. It’s right next to the Maine river with beautiful garden with majestic castle towers. Even just observing the renovation of the castle, I’m in awe!

Absolutely loved this beautiful chateau fort. There is a lot to see, especially the Tapestry of the Apocalypse based on the Book of Revelations. The views of the city are stunning too. There is a lovely outdoor café to chill during the visit.

Angers has a great deal of history from its Chateau to the old town and Cathedral. As well as a good shopping area, restaurants and hotels A fleeting visit which paid off.

Worth it just for the apocalypse tapestry which was very impressive. The chateau and grounds themselves were nice but there are much more impressive examples in other parts of the Loire. A large part of the wall is also undergoing renovations at the moment. There is a cafe inside as well.

An unexpected one and a half hours at Angers between trains? - do visit the Castle! Visiting alone I took about 35-40 minutes and it is a great mixture of huge striped stone curtain wall overlooking the Loire river and the town with more decorative chapel and apartments - had a display about medieval printing when I was there. And make sure to view the Apocalypse tapestry - huge!! A good choice.

One of our most favorite places in Angers. It's a must to do the little speaker to get a self tour. The Apocalypse was amazing. Really enjoyed finding graffiti next to the 1400's etched into the stone walls.

Well worth the visit to view the tapestry, understand more of the history and see the views from the ramparts too.

Went for the Steam Punk event but hadn't realised it started Friday afternoon and we arrived in the morning. We did however have a great lunch at Le Monument and saw a couple of characters.
Also the Tapestry was open so tool advantage of visiting. Very impressive

An amazing monument to visit, not only for the outstanding Apocalypse tapestry that you must see, but also for the old stones and bright flowers of this beautiful castle. Temporary exhibits are bilingual and allow the visitors to better understand Middle Age in the European context. The views from the castle on the river and the city of Angers, the cathedral in particular, are really worth the visit!

The tapestries were beautiful. To think of the thousands of hours of making these are amazing and so complex.

A magnificent castle with a beautiful view. There are stairs leading up to it, which completely overwhelmed me. I recommend.
