Ruins of an old castle in a stunning location on a hill top overlooking the Seine & small town of Les Andelys.

Very interesting history involving Richard the Lionheart & Philip II.

Great place to watch the sunset over the Seine as well!

Wonderful views on the surrounding area. On the way from the parking to the castle ruins you get wonderful views on the ruins. Also entering is worth the € 3,5 Euro. You het a real feel of how it must have been on the time of Richard Lionheart

I really enjoyed this experience. The ruins were accessible and certainly viewer friendly. The views from the castle were spectacular.

Beautiful old castle from 1200. Be prepared to walk up steep hill. Top is 300 ft above sea level. Great panoramic views of Seine River and valleys.

Great view from the top, there is no much to see from the Château but it holds part of an important history of France and England. The view from the top is great and the little town below is beautiful, and get ready for a good walk.

Spectacular castle and views over the Seine. It's 3 euro to enter the Castle but I'm not sure it enhances the experience. Also free parking is a short walk away including spaces for motorhomes. Highly recommended

Highly recommended. There are some informational boards that tell the history. Nice panoramic view over the castle, the Seine and Petit-Andely from the Parking Chateau Gaillard. But also nice view from the castle grounds themselves. The castle is freely accessible with the exception of the Keep.

Built by King Richard the Lionheart in the late 1100’s. It had a moat which was really just a ditch since they could not get any water up there to fill it. It is a nice walk up to the site from Les Andyles village. Walked up a narrow roadway and there were a few cars with residents heading off somewhere. So be careful.

Amazing place with stunning views. Definitely drive up to avoid a 20 minute hike up. Tickets are around 5 euros to enter (dungeons). Offers a perfect view over the Seine and Les Andelys. Expect small to medium crowds.

Truly splendid. A castle I have wished to visit for decades.

It is good value and lives up to my preconceptions.

The Outremer origins of the design are apparent.

Château Gaillard is a great place for one day trip by car from Paris.
Holding the line where sky and earth meet
Standing strong against hostilities since 11th century
Capturing the beauty of nature and history
Oh the castle
Oh the château
Keep standing
Keep quenching the visitors

I couldn't get in, but I believe the true reward lies outside... Get there from an elevated ground while growing with anticipation, park you car in the slope, walk the many paths to it, climb the last meters and be delighted with the view over the river with a romantic village at is side... Trully amazing. Some ruins they are. Best fotos I took from all weekend

A great stopping point if you're going from Paris to Normandy, ruins with a bit of interesting history behind it, Les Andelys is also nice town to stop in.
