What an amazing place. I was so impressed. What amazes me, is how forward the Finnish design was and is. Designs of mid century , so modern. It is really worth a visit ❤

Always good temporary exhibitions. Currently, Nanni Still. Lots of colourful and shapely glass. The smaller exhibition upstairs featuring student glass artists is varied and inspiring. Worth a trip.

Extensive collection of glass from Roman to Medieval to Modern vessels and artefacts expertly displayed. The museum follows the development of glass and the glass industry in detail. Set in an old glass factory, it also gives an insight into the Finnish glass industry, including the world-famous Iittala factory. The museum also boasts a truly impressive collection of glass-related literature. The giftshop is well-stocked as well (card payment available). Restaurant Klaas is good for a decent lunch break forming a well thought out complex with the museum. For a full day of exploring in Riihimäki, you can also visit the hunting museum next door.

Great place to discover beauty and uniqueness of Finnish glass design. Lots items from golden age of 1950-1970. I am waiting for special exhibition of Helena Tynell between may-october 2018.

Museum is a bit difficult to get to, located few Kms off the city center but always worth visiting.

This three-storie museum was a pleasant surprise. The exhibition's touch on the early history of glass-making and sprawls into Finnish glass-making all the way to modern glass art.

The museum presents history, technology, every-day-life glass items as well as art work in glass. There is plenty of information provided in Finnish, Swedish and English. The building of the museum is very elegantly adapted old glass factory house that itself is worth seeing. The interiors of the museum were designed by Tapio Wirkala.

The museum has a very comprehensive exhibition about history and technology of glass manufacturing both in Finland and elsewhere in the world. They have very impressive pieces of Finnish glass design with a distinct style and sense of beauty, and excavated pieces of glasswork of ancient times, they have an interesting collection of utility glassware, such as pharmacy, soft drinks and alcohol beverage bottles, jars, flasks, tableware, leadcut crystalls etc. The exhibition is educative for both children and adults and one has to reserve at least half a day if wants to look at it thoroughly. It takes 3 floors to go through, quite much of an interesting text to read, and many videos about mesmerizing glass blowing to watch. Highly recommend.
One drawback I noticed that they don't have audioguides, which is not entirely suitable for people with reading disabilities. However, as I understood, that they're working or going to work on this problem .

Great collection! But as sad as it is the feeling that this place gives to you is like that it has been built up to work as an mausoleum for the Lost World.
