we spontaneously visited the salt works and wanted to buy salt. the operator was very friendly and showed us the entire salt works and explained everything and answered our questions. the salt works has been a family business for generations.

I recommend you visit the salt works

Access is a little difficult, but simply drive through the traffic circle between the barriers ;)

If you're looking for natural and organic salt made directly from see water this is the place in Gran Canaria.
First of all you might find it hard to find. It's placed in an industrial area there you normally don't end up as a tourist. If you go here to Arinaga industrial zone you most likely have a specific reason for your trip. In the last round about there isn't even a sign telling you where to go, you'll find two large concrete blocks almost blocking the road. However it's written "Salinas" with spray paint. Drive through and then make a right turn. The road isn't paved and you'll most likely get a feeling that you've ended up in the middle of nowhere. But you haven't, just keep driving until the road ends. Where you'll see the dams with see water evaporating in the sun and a small building which is a shop but it doesn't look like that and there is no sign telling that. It's clear this destination isn't ment to be a tourist destination. Nevertheless, the staff working in the dams come for help. Inside the small shop you'll find pure natural salt and also flavoured salt with garlic, oregano, paprika and so on. The price is also very competitive.
Why drive all the way to Arinaga just to buy salt? Isn't salt to get in your nearest shop at home?
That's a decision you have to make yourself. But this salt is made from see water stored in dams there the water evaporates in the sun. In the end there will be only salt crystals left which is scraped up in a bucket and then put in a storage barn until packed in bags. See salt is also known to contain more minerals than industrial salt. See salt has no additives. Also see salt contain less sodium.

Very interesting, salt production explained by local who has been taking it over from his grandparents. Process of salt harvesting can be observed, little shop where you can also buy the salt and related things. Very nice owner who takes the time to explain.
