Casa Grande do Bachao

Absolutely lovely country retreat 25 minutes away from Santiago. Set on a large estate in beautiful rolling countryside, we had 3 nights and ate dinner on 2 of them. The food is lovely, and great value at €25 each, for three courses, fixed menu but both nights it was excellent. Breakfast also substantial and delicious. Stayed in a superior room - quiet and spacious with great views from the balcony. Pool was very quiet and we were lucky to able to use it during some warm sunny afternoons. Lots of other areas including honesty bar with pool table and various lounges with antiques and books. Staff are friendly and helpful. Great place to stay, we plan to return.

Originally we were looking for somewhere to stay in Santiago, but thankfully we couldn't find anywhere suitable and found this place instead, and how glad we were we did! It's a truly beautiful old Galician farmhouse (originally a monastery I believe), it's about a 5km drive from the nearest main road and is beautifully quite and peaceful, a real place of tranquillity amongst the forest with a river running at the bottom of the valley it sits in.
We stayed in a newer building with our dog, and dogs are very welcome, and the owners have their own dogs. Our room was perfect for our 2 night stay, and was right by the beautifully situated swimming pool. We were there on half-board and the breakfast was wonderful which was a buffet with everything you would expect and also freshly cooked tortilla (very yum). Dinner was a set 3 course meal and was amazing both times, if not a little pot-luck depending on your tastes! Ingredients used were obviously extremely fresh and local, and everything was cooked with great passion. The chef who is the owner even came out to speak to people after dinner which was a nice touch and appreciated.
As well as the already mentioned swimming pool, there are extensive beautiful grounds to walk around, an honesty bar with pool table where you can get drinks to enjoy outside or in one of the many cosy places within the lounge area.
It is a very easy short drive to Santiago de Compostela, but you may find you don't even want to leave!!
The cost for half-board was extremely good value given the quality of the food, the accommodation and the truly exceptional setting. We will definitely be back next time we are in the area.

Great place. Old historic building and very quiet an peaceful surroundings. Quiet on rooms if you don't have unruly neighbours below or above you because even though the walls ate solid rock the floor is wood. Full catering is available if you can eat your dinner after 9 pm. On request they can accommodate you for 8 pm. Great views and nice owners. Swimming pool an sauna included in price. Room cleaning as in high stars hotels.

The most beautiful place in the most beautiful setting. We came for a wedding reception and stayed 5 days. We were beautifully looked after nothing was too much trouble and if you chose to eat there the food was fabulous and you were always asked if you wanted more.
The wedding reception food 5 courses after the most fabulous fish canapés , was off the scale gorgeous. Would highly recommend this place for a relaxing holiday likewise a wedding reception.

One of my favourite hotels on this trip. The family that owns and runs the establishment was incredibly welcoming, helpful and professional. They made our stay so special. Will definitely go back.

The rooms were huge and really comfortable, the service was phenomenal and the food was just amazing. The entire place is run by the owners and makes for an amazing time. You feel transported to a different era...

Un sitio increíble, ubicación espectacular. Perfecto para desconectar y disfrutar de la naturaleza.
Estuvimos con nuestro perro y todo fue perfecto.
Salvo en el comedor pueden estar en todas las estancias, estuvimos hasta jugando al ajedrez con él mientras nos tomábamos una copa.
Muy recomendable!

Un luogo magnifico, una piccola gemma nascosta tra i boschi a poca distanza da Santiago. È stato tutto una favola, dall’alloggio, agli spazi comuni, al cibo squisito sia a cena che a colazione, passando dal personale attento e molto cordiale, concludendo con la magnifica compagnia a 4 zampe.

Pasamos una noche en agosto de 2022 y este año hemos reservado dos noches. Es un lugar donde se descansa, se desayuna y se cena de lujo. Está en medio de la naturaleza y las vistas son preciosas. El personal es muy amable. Aparte de todo, me gusta especialmente que admita mascotas, por eso este año voy a llevar a la mía.
Edito: hemos vuelto en agosto 2023 con perro y sigue siendo un paraíso. Enhorabuena a los propietarios.

Es la segunda vez que nos hospedamos, y maravilloso todo,el trato de diez, estuvimos mejor que en casa.
Tranquilidad, todo muy limpio, camas comidisimas, y el desayuno... fabuloso!! muchísima variedad, calidad, es todo casero, muy bueno, y el camarero muy profesional, y agradable. Repetimos una tercera vez seguro, este hotel es para estar varios días sin moverte y disfrutarlo, caminar por el río que tienen, con una tranquilidad que no se ve en ningún sitio. Gracias.
