The fried prawns are excellent and great value. I got talking with some locals from the Basque area and they told me they travel to Paco Bueno every week because of how much they like it. It helps if you can speak Spanish when visiting here as staff do not speak much English though

Loved this place - we popped in, found Yzaguirre vermouth and simple but beautifully made bar snacks that need a warning for being moreish. The staff are great, discreet but attentive - they'll leave you to have your drink and chat but have great recommendations and are happy to explain ingredients if you ask.
Will certainly be a place to go back to.

I don't prefer deep fried food, but their shrimp (gambas frito) is very good. Staff is very kind.

This place is the real deal—a no-frills bar where locals come to grab a drink and eat good pintxos. I stopped by with my wife on a recent August evening and we loved the place. We ordered gamba a la gabardina, or shrimp fried in a thick crispy batter. It was amazing! The shrimp was tender and the batter was tasty and warm but not greasy. The pintxo comes with two shrimps to a plate for $1.90. We enjoyed two orders each, which we washed down with a glass of beer and cider. Paco Bueno exudes character. Here you’ll see and hear the bartenders speaking with each other and the regulars in Euskera, the Basque language, and you can easily strike up a conversation in Spanish with friendly locals. This is one of the top pintxo bars we visited during our month-long stay in Donostia, and we look forward to returning to Paco’s next time we visit this beautiful seaside city.

One of the great bars of the old town, this is what a great bar should be simple, no-frills but classic. Just order a portion of Gambas gabardina with a nice glass of Sidra or Txakoli and soak up the atmosphere and history of this wonderful old bar. Long may it continue.

*CASH ONLY
A local favorite and there's good reason, everything comes out fresh from the kitchen and they don't keep anything too long on the bar. The fried shrimps are a must try with a drink. Great service and spot some photos on the walls with a history spanning 70 years.
*Tip: Find a space near the end of the bar close to the kitchen, you'll be the first to see anything before it reaches the front.

Great place.
Full of locals, maybe I misinterpreted the situation, but I had the impression that tourists are not overly welcome, but we were served just as well.
Food was great and significantly cheaper than other places

The gambas a la gabardina (battered prawns) are totally worth having, umami flavour light and very addictive. Wish I ordered more!

A popular place for the locals to have a pint and battered shrimp. Actually, it was recommended to us by the locals.
Was rather busy when we arrived, but also reassuring that the food is good, and it didn’t disappoint.
Would definitely come back for octopus and battered shrimp - they were so delicious.

This come as you are pillar of a no frills top notch tapas bar is what I imagine San Sebastián was like 50 years ago. Prices are as low as you can find in all of San Sebastián at this cash only location. Crowds come in waves that vary from NYC stock exchange to the bread line at a celiacs convention. The move is to ignore all sandwiches and wait for anything fried to come out from the back kitchen. Their fried shrimp and calamari seem to be their specialty and for good reason. Drinks food and stern costumer service all leave you feeling like you just found the true San Sebastián.
