El Jardín Secreto (The Secret Garden)

4 of 5 stars is for its connecting via engineered nature trail (only by walking / hiking at the moment ) the upper local neighborhoods like El Polvorin to the city centre below. Its 5 of 5 stars for safety from the bad drivers & small disconnected sidewalks around the upper areas to below and for its rapid connection up / down the hill. It should get 1 of 5 stars if it were a park with no connection. It has zero access for wheelchair users unless they drag themselves up / down the normally garbage strewn & graffitied steps - can fix this and add bicycle access fairly easily by paving a chicane trail. Of course any engineering for this park requires to solve the biggest issue - and what its original intention in 1947 (built) was - hide the poo smells from the sewage system hidden below the park trail. You see this secret garden has a secret - it tries to mask the sewage and and storm drains which aid to drain the upper neighborhoods. This little secret valley dip serves as the main sewage collection and stormwater drainage pipeline system for pumping the poo water to the city mains below from the upper neighborhoods. No amount of lillac trees or roses can stem the smells if there has been little rain to help flush the system buried below the park. The system still off gasses and this gas can be very overpowering on dry days. It is a beautiful idea and if you can't smell the place - which a lot of the days you can't. It is lovely minus the bits of graffiti, unfinished works, damaged works and of course the homeless and the every present garbage that is strewn or thrown here by the wind or bad citizens. Absolutely very limited access for persons with mobility issues. No toilets or fountains. Little effort by the city to maintain - almost a forgotten secret. It did get a recent run through a paint job on city walls. This however forgets the private walls that can be seen and are covered with graffiti. It looks worse then before in a way as they just missed doing everything else. The park needs a serious upgrade to modern life. Especially for persons with disability. Worth a look and hike as it really is a great urban connection space that just happens to have a lot of corrections / fixing needed.

Terrible, I was suggested to pass from here to visit the upper city but I gave up due to the smell and desolation. I was seriously scared anyone of crossing the park alone. It's a pity because it could be a nice place.

¿"Jardín Secreto"? Jajajajajaja... Ay, por dios, a qué mente "pensante" se le habrá ocurrido...
Tengo 45 tacos y mi infancia la pasé en Schamann.
Como dice otro comentario (que por cierto, me ha hecho soltar una carcajada) , ese agujero ha sido siempre el parque de las cucas y ya en los 80 la mayoría de los padres (al menos los que tenían dos dedos de frente) no dejaban a sus hijos acercarse a la zona.
Lo de "Jardín Secreto" debe ser por la cantidad de sorpresas que te vas a encontrar, entre yonkis, indigentes y pirados de la cabeza.
Por un momento imagínense que un pobre turista le da por mirar Google y termina en semejante zulo, guiándose por tan mágico nombre... (Y lo digo con mucha seriedad)

para empezar, nadie en esta isla lo llama jardin secreto, se llama parque de las cucas, y no se si se llama asi por las cucarachas o por las cucas de los señores q vienen a hacer cruissing, un sitio super jacoso donde todo da sida, es un atajo para subir desde tomas morales a schamann pero super descuidado, entre los sintecho que viven ahi, los vecinos locos que queman los colchones y los veriles de los sin techo, la escasa limpieza q hay, y sobretodo lo dañado que esta por las lluvias hace que ese lugar apeste a muerto, como si hubiera algo descomponiendose desde las navidades del 72, en fin un sitio en el q ni sacar al perro, porque encima aparece la policia nacional y te trata de drogadicto, solo por estar en un sitio tan jacoso. Te lo recomiendo como atajo pa llegar antes a paseo de chill o a tomas morales si bajas de schaman, si no, la verdad no te invito a venir por aqui, solo conseguiras traumas
