Viljandi Castle Hill

The castle ruin will take you to ancient times. The view of the lake up from the hill is outstanding. Highly recommended to visit in a sunny day.

Not much left from the castle but the whole area is a beautiful park. The view over the lake is gorgeous.

We visited Viljandi castle on our first stop travelling from Tallinn to Riga. It was a memorable time for me to walk through this Livonian castle from a long ago era.

The remains of probably the biggest fortress in Northern Baltics. By now is has been perfectly cleaned and presented, so all that remains is visible and accessible. To experience the location in the best way go there where no events are in progress, so you can have better ways of exploring the fortress.
While at it do not forget to check out the hanging footbridge in the back corner of the fortress as well as to look over the lake Viljandi from the convent area.

A castle ruin which now a popular open air theater. The castle was destroyed in the 17th century which was long ago but still the ruin is very attractive.

You can see the lake from the ruin and make it a very scenic place to visit.

It would be a very fairy tale type castle if it was not destroyed. The surrounding area is just like the scene you always find in the story book.

Very beautiful and interesting place, take more time to explore and look every corner of it!

Stunning location to enjoy a day out

Visited late in the long summer evenings and the site itself was awe inspiring.
Coupled with the view over the lake and the sun giving way to dusk, it was truly breathtaking.

Highly recommended walk after dinner in town.

Beautiful castle and nature.

It is almost impossible to believe that the bishop left this place more four hundred and fifty years ago. Now Estonia is no more catholic but the place hasn`t changed since.

Viljandi is a small little village famous for folk songs, naive strawberry paintings and the castle ruins. With a nice view over the lake~
