Hostería Mandala

Unique and adorable place! Surrounded by nature with hammocks on the porches! Rooms are nice and clean (no ac, however, and it was hotter than normal when we were there). But good service (English spoken at front desk. I am learning Spanish), really good food and cute fishing village and beach town.

The place is a work of art as well as a hotel. All the rooms have distinctive features and unique styling. The owners have obviously put thousands of hours of thought and effort into making it a relaxing place with nature and plants everywhere.

This place is magical. We love coming here and enjoying, not only the lovely landscape and warm hearted owners and staff. We love every single detail, tasty and great breakfast, good coffee, amazing and rich garden, the iguanas and birds, the palm trees flowers... everything here is magnificent. Puerto López is a fantastic location with clean and endless beach, welcoming and friendly population. We feel safe here. We will be back!

Beautiful rooms, no Ac (didn't need in August) no TV either but wonderful rooms. BTW one had handicap grab bars in shower. Don't see this often in Ecuador.
A 20 or so minute walk to town or $1.5 cab or moto cab.
Quiet! No noise from town.
Peaceful, mosquitoes were not a problem but their were nets so maybe other times of the year.

This is the most amazing place 🤩 If you are going to the coast, go here. It is a nice and clean place with so much atmosphere. We would have loved to stay more than two nights. It’s close to downtown with a lot of things going on, it’s right on the beach (a very small road between, but so little traffic). The staff is amazing, so helpful and they serves great breakfast. I can’t think of anywhere else in this area to relax and enjoy life 🥰🥰🥰

A great hotel. Very professional and staff very nice. The rooms (we had butterfly) a very spacious, the bathroom too. Overall very calm atmosphere, no noise around at least when we were there. Bitds chirping in the morning is very nice. The breakfast is very good, you have three options. I recommend the bolon with fried eggs, very good.
The beach in front is nice and you can swim, but it isn't the best beach in the region, and being close to Puerto Lopez it isn't the cleanest either. But from Puerto Lopez the advantage is that you can access all the great spots in 10 min by car or taxi... Frieles, Agua Blanca, Salango...

incredible boutique lodgings (all wood carved, hammocks, exquisite artwork, hot showers, strong wifi, etc) right on the beach in a secluded, gated compound surrounded by dense gardens. clean, safe, and comfortable. can’t recommend this place enough.

I've heard it's the top rated hotel in Porto Lopez. It should be. They've earned the right. Definitely the top location I stayed in, compared to, in Quito, Baños, Cuenca & Guayaquil.
I'm probably ever getting back to Equidor in my lifetime. But a week at this place is tempting.

Amazing place, beautiful doesn't even begin to describe it. AAA+ service. Forwarded some of the windows have screens only. Depending on the time of year you may need the extra blanket. Always use the mosquito net surrounding the bed.

Hosteria Mandala is a real wonder. The Cabanas are beautiful, each with it's own distinctive design motif. There is good water pressure and enough hot water. The well marked paths leading to the rooms are an absolute joy to navigate as you are surrounded on all sides by an incredible collection of beautifully maintained plants and flowers. The main building is also a fantastic display of the owner's woodworking prowess, with beautiful carvings and a solid comfortable feel to the distinctively made furniture. We love it here. The only issue we have encountered is that other than breakfast, the kitchen no longer operates and the whole place runs on a skeleton crew. This means you need to leave the premises to eat where once upon a time you could hang out here all day and have all your needs met.
Despite this inconvenience, Hosteria Mandala is a wonderful place to stay in Puerto Lopez. I highly recommend it.

Feels like a piece of paradise. The cabins are quaint and feel very secluded thanks to all the foliage. The owners and staff were so friendly and accommodating and the food was delicious.
If you are in Puerto Lopez, stay here. Wish we were there during whale season but it was also nice to be there during the slow season. Very peaceful.

Conveniently located right on the beach. Super duper clean, which is already 4 stars for me. Great setting in the middle of a tropical garden. You can sometimes see some iguanas in the trees. Excellent food with home-made bread. Make sure to try their desserts! Very pleasant and efficient, multilingual staff. A variety of board games in English, French, German and Spanish for rainy days. Beach toys are also available. They also have a nice multilingual library upstairs, along with some musical instruments. And last but not least, their 4 impressive are wonderful.
In other words, your stay there is sure to be pleasant and relaxing.

Just got here. Puerto Lopez is a cool, funky little equatorial beach/fishing town in the middle of dry forest habitat. It's somewhat popular on holidays, but no so much as you can't find a nice quiet spot. Hosteria Mandala is just that spot. Right on the beach, lovely gardens, many different artistically appointed wonderful rooms. Looking forward to the stay. Post stay. The property flooded out along with our cabin. Management handled it well and brought an old room back to life. We had a blast. Beautiful little French restaurant right next door with simple but delicious fare. Lovely drives to be had throughout the whole area on E15 and side routes. Absolutely worth the visit.

Best place we stayed in Ecuador! Stayed here for two nights with my father in January. We stayed in a large room (3 twin beds) and had plenty of space. Rooms have mosquito nets (luckily didn’t need) and two fans (all we needed to stay comfortable at night), a closet, mini fridge and large bathroom with a big vanity top. We also had a covered porch with two tables, chairs and two very nice hammocks.

Each place feels very private thanks to all the plants - the whole place is surrounded by a very well kept botanical garden - we woke up to the birds chirping all around us like we were In a tree house - truly a very special place. Whole place is like a hand crafted piece of art -with exceptional attention to detail. Would definitely stay here again if I were to come back. Was not here during whale season so the town did seem a little empty. Only downside is the location- it’s a little far from the main drag of town (10-15 min walk), but it more than makes up for it with the other amenities. Restaurant is also great and lobby area has multiple levels and common spaces to use including a library, TV (no TVs in the rooms), and musical instruments to use. Nice breakfast was also included - eggs, juice, coffee, toast, and fruit salad. Friendly staff that was very helpful in booking our tours, taxi and answering travel questions (spoke great English).

Great place with beautiful grounds and buildings. Highly recommend a room with a balcony and hammocks. The staff was very helpful with arranging taxis to and from the airport as well as a tour of Isla de la Plata. The location is great because it's on the slower end of town with a quiet beach and an excellent café next door, and it is only a quick walk to the more lively section of town. You get the best of both worlds. We loved the hammocks they provide to take to the private beach with pergolas for shade. The included breakfast was also good.

I travel a lot around the world and this is truly one of the best hosterias I have stayed at. I cannot find one thing that I did not like about the place. It is beautifully done - with little personal touches all over the place. It feels like "home" and each little cabin has some privacy. Hot water, clean rooms, beautiful design, lovely garden, great location. The breakfast is also wonderful and included, and the price is definitely fair for what you receive. Perfect place to relax! There are 2 great restaurants nearby and lots of vegan/ vegetarian options. The beach itself isn't very nice (not very clean), but the hosteria is located not too far from places like Ayampe and los Frailes. 100% recommend.

Hosteria Mandela is a beautiful garden oasis on the quiet end of the beach in Puerto Lopez. The property is full of amazing artwork. Our accommodations are so comfortable and relaxing. The owners and staff are very helpful and friendly. Couldn't be a nicer stay. Highly recommend!

Incredible sanctuary. The couple that owns this beautiful bungalow style hotel has spent the last 20 years decorating and building this getaway from the ground up. Every single chair, door, ceiling, floor, all the way down to the menus and ashtrays has been hand built with high quality construction and artistic beauty. I am seriously taken aback. I believe they are the most devoted and talented artists I have ever met.

Nice and cozy place. Owners are so amazing people and kids friendly and so relax. There are so many things for kids and you can use them freely. Interior abd exterior desings of the room are so comfortable and clean. Every details of the rooms thought for guest comfort. I highly recommend.
