The madre Tierra resort is fantastic. There are plants everywhere, it is just beautiful and gives a lot of rest. The rooms are very nice, the beds are good and the kitchen is well equipped. There is even a nice and clean pool!
The manager is very nice, he helps you with everything.
Its only a 15 min walk to the village of vilcabamba. And a taxi is just 1.50.
This is the place to be!

My family & I stayed at Madre Tierra for a month during May & June, and couldn't have asked for a much better place to land. The space was beautiful & tranquil, it was an easy 20-minute walk to the plaza, and the staff were caring, responsive & top-notch. A few times we had them prepare dinners for us and the food was spectacular & abundant. Importantly for us, the Wifi was fast and available throughout the resort so we could work a bit during our stay. If you're looking for a place to land in Vilca for awhile, relax, and even get some work done, we'd highly recommend Madre Tierra, and look forward to returning soon! Thanks all, we miss you!!

My partner and I stayed here in Dec, 2019. It was awesome in every way. Location, gardens, food, staff all amazing. Peter, the host, was wonderful, and took extra good care of us!
Cannot wait til we can return to Madre Tierra.

The easy vibe this place has must be experienced, I cannot describe it. Our room had a gorgeous view of of the mountains, but I especially enjoyed watching the twinkling lights of the town come on as night fell over the valley. All staff were warm and welcoming and our host was a delight to converse with. I do not hesitate to say our stay at Madre Tierra was a lovely one!

Madre Tierra Resort & Spa is the perfect spot for a relaxing getaway! The entire property has stunning views of the surrounding mountains and peaceful, happy vibes. The owners and all the staff are so friendly, welcoming and helpful, and speak English and Spanish. I stayed for two nights in the Superior Queen room with a garden view. The room was close enough to everything to be convenient but with plenty of privacy and quiet. We had a hammock, table, and couch on a large porch. The room also had a very nice bathroom with an amazing mosaic shower with great hot water and pressure. The pool is absolutely beautiful with cascading waterfalls and small pools before getting to the main pool and was a perfect place to lounge around and relax for a few days. Breakfast was very good with your choice of oatmeal or two eggs made to order, fruit, toast, and self-serve coffee and tea. They also have self-serve filtered water available 24/7. All the food from the restaurant looked and smelled amazing. The only thing I was able to try from the menu was a cacao banana smoothie made with raw milk and it was one of the best smoothies I have ever had. The 100-step walk up to the top rooms with the viewpoint is well worth it! I unfortunately did not get to partake in the spa services but was given a tour and the facilities are beautiful with stunning views. I recommend taking advantage of their spa, even if you don't stay there!

Excellent organic food. The tiny room next to the hobbit room was perfect. The family run business is very welcoming. The cost for everything is very affordable. The mud bath was much different than a clay bath. The room was cool and the mud dried on your skin in the cool air with your feet in the hot water. I'd suggest another treatment & use a translation App to communicate if not fluent in Spanish. I highly recommend this family owned business for dining, spa treatment or overnight stay.

Madre tierra is a fitting name! You feel you are one with nature when staying here. You are surrounded by mountains, beautiful plants, trees, flowers and the views are spectacular. The room I was in was the superior queen garden view and it felt like a 5 star hotel. Toilet is in its own room separate from sink which is a plus. The shower was beautiful and good size! And the terrace had a hammock and some of the most beautiful views of the town and nature. The breakfast is included and really good...standard is eggs or oatmeal and you can buy other food items as well. The french toast looked amazing! I did try their cacao smoothie made with raw cow milk. I’m lactose intolerant and this gave me no averse reactions. Might have been the best cacao smoothie EVER! They also have a beautiful spa with breathtaking views, unfortunately I did not get a chance to partake in their services. You should though! They also have viewpoints and a small library! Their pool is so nice, it has cascading waterfalls and the sound of the water puts you in a state of tranquility. That’s where I spent most of the weekend, lounging, swimming, doing yoga! It’s a beautiful space! If you want to get away from it all and be relaxed and rejuvenated...Madre Tierra is the place for you. Also the town is only a 20 min walk away or 1.5 usd taxi. The staff is amazing and make you feel at home especially Ryan and Gail. Thank you for everything! 100 % Recommend! Do not miss out on this beautiful experience when in Vilcabamba!

Madre Tierra is an escape into a mountain paradise. From the lush gardens offering flowers of all varieties, to the lovely accommodations - this is a special place to spend time with family and/or friends. The owners of the resort are terrific in caring for the guests in a way, that makes one feel as if they are at home. The staff is terrific and very dedicated, and we were delighted that the majority of employees were bilingual.

One can not visit the resort, without checking out the first rate spa. Not only are the services offered out of this world - the prices are not too hard on the pocketbook.

Finally, it was wonderful to dine on the exquisite cuisine offered for all times of day and night.

We would highly recommend Madre Tierra to anyone that asked for, it is truly a hidden gem in Vilcabamba Ecuador.

We booked Madre Tierra's Discover Vilcabamba package -- 3 nights, 2 dinners, 2 massages, and a 2 hour city tour by taxi. We were picked up at the airport by a driver, delivered to the front steps and the rest of the world stopped. We were greeted by Any (the owners' daughter) and Eduardo. Checked in and took a stairway to heaven to room 15, the master suite. It was spscious, private balcony, large room, large bath, large bed. We were welcomed warmly by all staff and by the family owners. Eduardo and Aura left no need or request undone. Gail and her family made us feel like old friends. We extended our visit 3 more days before a sad goodbye. Oh, by the way, the massage was fantastic! I wanted to take Sonja home with me! Til next time!

Wonderful is a good word to describe our stay with Peter and Gail. The rooms are lovely with unique tiling in each shower and the grounds are gorgeous. The staff, a few of whom speak English, are friendly and always helpful.

There are times in which you experience something that you simply struggle to explain in words so others understand your experience. I struggle to find the words to explain our stay at Madre Tierra. I will do my best but could simply state this: When you arrive, your heart simply knows that you are home.

My husband and I stayed at Madre Tierra for several days and it was amazing. When we arrived the first day we said, "it can't get better than this!". Then the next day it got better and the next day even better and by the third day I told my husband that this place was so unique that words could not describe what we were experiencing.

Gail and Pete are simply the BEST hosts one could ever ask for. Every staff member was warm, friendly, caring and were vested in doing their very best to provide us an excellent stay and experience. The private chef who cooked our meals amazed us at each and every meal. The food was fresh and flavorful.

We were part of a group of 4 couples that decided to escape for a few days and enjoy each others company and little did we know we would find new friends and a further extension of our Ecuadorian family.

If you are considering Madre Tierra, simply go. You will NOT be disappointed. We live only a short drive away from Madre Tierra and I assure you, that we are already discussing our next trip.

What can I say, the food, the hospitality and the accommodations were all that one could ask for and receive. The modalities we received at the Spa , along with the personal touch made it all worthwhile. The owners Peter and Gail were the reason why our stay at Madre Tierra was very enjoyable. We will be returning!. This is a must stay for all.

We are in southern Ecuador for an extended period and were looking for a place to escape and relax for a week. Madre Tierra was recommended to us by a friend and the experience did not disappoint!

The facility is rustic and quaint, but still has all the modern amenities. We stayed in room 9 at the top of the hill which had a nice patio with a table and sweeping views of the valley below—a great location to hang out, play cards, have a snack, or read a book. The room came with comfortable beds and a hot shower, and the cool Vilcabamba night air was perfect for a great night’s sleep.

We didn’t avail ourselves of the spa services, but for very reasonable prices there are a variety of treatments available; they need to be scheduled in advance. The property has a small pool that is fed by a great waterfall feature. The pool is on the cold side so it is best reserved for particularly hot afternoons. There is also a small conference facility that doesn’t seem to get much use but has an awesome ping pong table as well as projection and audio equipment to do a movie night. Overall, the property is lush with foliage and very peaceful, it is just a great place to unwind. For those who need to work when they travel, Internet quality was generally very good.

The food service is really excellent and I would recommend eating most meals on the property, if they are serving. In the morning they have a nice breakfast menu and really good coffee; most people can fill their bellies for five bucks or less. Dinners are creative, hearty, and freshly cooked. Basic bar fare is also available.

A mile away, Vilcabamba is a sleepy little town that is good for an afternoon stroll, and there is plenty to explore in the surrounding valley. Some food options you might consider include: fish tacos at Agave Blu, yucca fries UFO, and fudge at Beverly Hills Coffee.

I highly recommend Madre Tierra for extended stays in southern Ecuador!

Few places on this planet have the ability to enter your soul, evoking an immediate release of all stress. MADRE TIERRA is one of those places. Service was impeccable, everyone had a helpful attitude. Owners, Peter and Gail, take charge and deliver. The value for your dollar is unprecedented - the complete package....and of course, the best climate in all Ecuador.

When we lived in Vilcabama, this was one of our favorite places to eat. It is a wonderful place to stay, as well.
