Place you have to visit if you want to know Ecuador. It contains 15 pyramids, 21 funerary mounds. It highlights the value of the Quitucara culture although objects from other distant cultures are found. (500 AD and 1500 AD). The tour lasts approximately 2 hours.I strongly recommend visit the place before 1 pm because of the posible climate changes.

Located an hour from Quito. You can find in this place a cermenial pyramids, sundial, moondial, that was used to agriculture matters, an also a museum. It's a great place to bring kids, and please pay attention to explanation about geo location, it's interesting to learn a little more about how old poblations readed the stars and how they used that to located their farms.

Love the history and view. For the small ticket price, which is so worth it, you get a tour. The local guide tour us given in Spanish and who was very knowledgeable, helpful and nice. I am not sure if they offer guides in English. The tour takes about two hours and it includes a small museum at the end. There are also llamas you can pet if they happen to be around. It’s not hard to get there if you have a car, but one tip if driving: don’t take the road marked as ‘road to cochasqui’ which is after the toll booth. It’s cobble stone road for most of the drive up. On the way down we found the main road that was mostly paved and 100x better!

Anyone coming here and expecting Machu Picchu is going to be disappointed. It doesn't pretend to be. But for those with genuine curiosity and desire to learn, it is fascinating, well worth a visit. The pyramids are badly eroded so at first glance it just looks like a bunch of hillocks scattered around the mountainside. But give it a moment--and with the help of a large diorama--and it all comes into focus. The precision with which the ancients laid out the complex in relation to the equator, vernal & autumnal equinoxes and surrounding mountains is amazing. The site is quite exposed so bring sun-screen, a jacket and water. Bring some salt, too. There is a large herd of llamas that roam freely and they will come running to greet you if you offer them a handful of salt. Great place to get some llama pictures from your trip to Ecuador

This is likely a lesser known and underappreciated tourist stop in Ecuador. But it was a very peaceful, beautiful, and educational stop on our first visit to the country and I'm very glad we went. We were lucky to have an English speaking guide and she helped me with Spanish as much as I helped her with English. Aside from explaining the details of the archeological site, she also took the time to spot a burrowing owl for us, introduced us to a fun bunch of alpacas and llamas with salt in our hands for them to lick, and even picked up a three-day-old alpaca and handed it to us in turns. I can now say that I've held a baby alpaca! I was allowed to launch a drone for some aerial photos and we bought a cool poncho on the way out. Worth it!

Our only problem with this and other sites we've visited in Ecuador is that Google Maps seems to want to send us on the craziest, most absurd and non-vehicle-friendly routes to these places. Then we later discover much easier routes. Local taxis most likely will get you there with a fast, comfortable route, rather than having Google direct you through dirt roads and confusing neighborhoods, as if seeking an insanely unnecessary "shortcut."

Go to Cochasqui if you're anywhere near the Quito area and have a couple hours to see something interesting and beautiful.

One the best spots near Quito. The trekking part and explanations about the Ecuadorian cultures, pyramids in the area Pre Inca traditions, even the view from there are totally awesome. Loved it.

If you're into pyramids go see it. One of the best place I've been to in a long time. If the vast open land don't pull you in then learn about the mounds and consider the amount of work put into getting it done!
