Gößweinstein Castle

Storybook castle which has everything you would desire from a quintessential castle, including a prison/dungeon, arms and armor, a "Burgstube", a "Schloßkapelle", and so on. Everything is seen through the prism of a 19th century neogothic renovation. Perfect view of Gössweinstein and its basilica.

Very interesting castle. The owners have done a nice job restoring and bringing to life a medieval experience. Interesting to walk around rooms and corridors. Outstanding views as well as a nice friendly kiosk to grab a snack and refreshments. The trails around the area are exceptional.

Very nice town with a beautiful castle!

Wonderfully renovated 11th century castle, decorated with armour and weapons from the olde days of yore. Charming little beergarden facing south, sunshine guaranteed, serving coffees, cake, wine and beer. Great for a break after some hiking. A must!

Small private owned. Nice outlooks. The swing is relaxing in the shade on warm day.

Yes, it's only 4 euros to stand in private grounds with the most tremendous views of Gossweinstein +plus a little vista of what life was like back then.
Little walk up, not steep and the beer garden so worth it.

Maybe not as big, beautiful or famous like the Neuschwanstein Castle, the Gößweinstein Castle worth also a visit if you are in Bavaria.
If you are based in Nürnberg and plan a visit on a Sunday I recommend to take the local trains to Ebermannstadt and from there to continue your journey with the tourist train with steam engine to Behringersmühle. Then you can walk 30 minutes uphill to Gößweinstein, which is a lovely little city with the castle sitting on a rock above it.
The panoramic views from the castle are great and they have also a small bar where you can enjoy a local beer while admiring the views.
I wished I could stay there longer if I didn't have to catch the train back to Ebermannstadt.

Nice place for a scenic view of the entire town and lovely place for a good set of photos and can explore the ancient constructions

Really cool castle with amazing views every which way. Stop and have a beer at the bar at the castle if you can, it's worth it.

Kleine Burganlage, deren Ergeschoss und Nebengebäude besichtigt werden können.
Interessant gestaltete Außenanlage.
Freundliches Personal. Sehr gute Aussicht über Gößweinstein.
Aufgrund der Treppen im Eingangs- und Außenbereich nicht barrierefrei.
