Visiting the house of the all-around wanna-be genius Goethe is definitely worth; travel back in time and walk through an old house to experience how the bourgeoisie rich poet lived; inspired by the ideals of the renaissance you can find a lot of real looking fake sculptures; obviously Goethe has been a collector or just a messy? Beautiful residence of famous German poet Goethe. Pleased to know that this country has saved its heroes residence with a neat and clean environment and proper maintenance.
They also provide an audio guide to visitors therefore no need to ask someone about the place. The audio guide has all the information you want to know about the place.

If you came to see Weimar, you should definitely pay here a visit: The house of famous German writer, Wolfgang von Goethe. Totally worth the time. This man was a legendary, and in his home there is a collection of art works.

The place is very well-kept. The audioguide is really helpful and the story is very interesting. My favorite part of the house was the garden, it has so many beautiful flowers and plants! It's a must-see in Weimar and in Germany in general.

The best museum in Weimar.

Must see if U are in Weimar. But it is recommended to check the tickets before visiting (personal, or via phone). The museum is often full.

A really great insight into the life of Goethe. His home is kept as close as possible to the way it was when he died and a very thorough (free) audio guide helps putting it all into perspective.

With the street signs, the house is very easy to be found. It's not only very well preserved but also very big with a lot of Goethe's art collection (statues, china, portrait and his little library) it's very nice that they also provide electronic tour guide and a map. Don't miss the second floor, it's the museum, with more collections from Goethe.

Loved it. A great look into his life. The audio tour was fantastic. You might have to get there early to book a tour if you go during high season. We were there when it opened and just went right in. The museum attached to the house is not as impressive as the house itself

Although a lot has been altered and there is little about Goethe's work to be experienced, the private life and inner workings of his mind are still present and well presented. If you can, go now! Starting 2026 the place will face major renovations.

It is a must. I was very impressed of this treasure. I recommend this visit to all that come to Weimar❤

Such an enriching experience! Allocate at least 2.5h (towards 3) for the house and museum and take an audio guide, it has the optimal level of information (in my opinion :D)! Check for special offers before going: currently, the 3rd Sunday in a month is free from 14.00.

The house is well-preserved and the exhibition at the attached museum is very detailed. One useful thing is that the museum had English explanations along with the German ones. Don't miss the garden behind the house. Goethe planned it himself and it's a lovely, peaceful retreat.

Outside is very nice. I was not able to go in, because it was not open, yet.
