Spectacular!! I've seen a lot of religious architecture but this is one of the best. A must see while in Bavaria. Passau is a nice town to hang around as well.

Awe-inspiring craftsmanship inside this beautiful cathedral. Definitely worth a visit, even as it undergoes renovations.

The church entrance is free and definitely worth visiting this gorgeous cathedral with frescos adorning the numerous ceilings. Be mindful of visiting during church service times. Also, I would highly recommend the organ recitals here ($5/person), which can be purchased in the small courtyard by the main entrance.

This Baroque Church built in 1688, still serving as the seat of the Catholic Bishop of Passau, hosts the largest church organ, with 17,774 pipes and 233 registers, at its initial completion, which is still the largest organ outside the U.S.

Entry to the cathedral is free, but closes at 1030 for preparation of concert by organ. You can purchase tickets to hear the largest organ in the world be played!

Extremely impressive church. We came during an organ playing and the place is absolutely amazing to check out. The ceiling is painted very nicely. I would make this a must see.

There are 5 separate organs to play by one person at the same time. Excellent organ recital at noon and 5 Euro to enter. No recording allowed, but you can buy cd in the end.

Everybody should see here. St Stephan Church is open for tourists and it is the largest church of gothic art in Europe. It made by architect Carlo Lurago in 1668. It is closer to river.

Our visit to St. Stephan's Cathedral was excellent! This is a beautiful baroque cathedral built in the 1600's with much gilding inside and famous frescos. The highlight though is the church organ system which actually incorporates five organs (with one in the dome!) all played by a single organist. This provides truly incredible surround sound! There are daily noon-time concerts in the late summer/early fall. Admission is just a few Euros. There are no assigned seats so come early. Try to sit as close to the middle as possible. The concert lasts about one hour. We were told that the baroque concept was to make one feel as if one were in heaven already. That certainly came true during the organ concert!

A beautiful Baroque cathedral, sadly when we visited it was undergoing major restoration work. I’m certain that when all is completed it will look fabulous.

Cathedral of St. Stephen
St. Stephen's Cathedral in Passau is the mother church of the Danube East. There is evidence of a church in the late antique city of Batavis as early as around the year 450. The episcopal church was first mentioned in documents in 730 and has been the cathedral of the diocese since 739.

Awesome architecture, must see place in passau, however due to construction work going inside cathedral, it was smelling concrete. Once construction is over, a must visit place.
