Hospital Kuks

A beautiful hospital in baroque style built in the 17th century as a health resort. Fully renovated, today there is a museum of art and pharmaceutical museum. There are unique exhibits inside and the outside has a number of baroque statues representing the virtues and vices. One can also walk around the herbal garden and sit on the benches around it. There is a small cemetery and the whole grounds are amazing to walk around and enjoy the views. An ideal place to visit during a weekend.

The Baroque Kuks Castle is located on the right bank of the Labe River and was built at the beginning of the 18th century according to the project of the Italian architect Giovanni Battista Alliprandi. The castle consisted of two parts - the hospital with the Church of the Holy Trinity and the second part with the second oldest pharmacy in Bohemia and Moravia.
Both parts are accessible during the tour and are very beautiful, the area has recently been costly reconstructed. I highly recommend the tour, which is also available in English. The tour lasts one hour and includes a visit to the lapidarium, where the original statues of the virtues and vices by Matthias Braun are kept.
Today, the premises also house the Czech Pharmaceutical Museum, a department of Charles University, and the Czech Wine Bank is located in the cellars.
The place - the village of Kuks - is extremely picturesque. The view from the village to the castle and from the castle to the village - the former spa - is breathtaking.

Beautiful place you can spend your whole day at. Entry to the gardens is free - a visit there is absolutely worth it.

Kuks is the known must to visit for anybody interesting in baroque. But the close to - 1 and half hour walk - Braun statues in forest are must too. Amazing, stunning. Bethelem is something you want to see, too.

Great place to see with family. We have visited Christmas market. They were huge. There was a parking lot available for everyone (around 40czk). I can definitely recommend walking along the statues of virtue and vice. Gardens are nice and cal as well.
