Restaurant Formanka

It’s indeed a hidden gem on D1! Absolutely amazing food, home made local Czech cuisine. You can also buy some local products in the restaurant - bread, honey, home made juices etc. It’s a gastronomic experience on the road from Prague to Brno!

Formanka is a real gem in the middle of the Czech countryside. It's also a great suprise to find a place like that in a freeway rest area. Located behind a Mc Donalds', unfortunately many people will opt for the latter.

However if you're up to trying authentic Czech food, there is no better place to go to. I had the feeling that when the staff cooking here goes home after a long workday, they just prepare the same food the exact same way they do it here for their kids and grandkids.

Everything was excellent and the waitress kind and smiling. We tried different soups, Czech specialities like Svíčková and also apple strudel and some plum-filled local dumplings.

And one more thing. This is dirt cheap. The 2 of us eat 3 course menus and drinks and one of us just a main dish, and we still paid less than 50 Euros total. What a bargain to have such excellent authentic food!

On the flip side they don't accept credit cards. This is basically the only negative thing I can mention here. They do accept Euros though, so don't be afraid to stop by when you are driving between Prague and Brno.

Outstanding food along the highway! Friendly staff, delicious food...big menu with grill and vegetarian options. Everything looked homemade. Dogs welcome. Tradtional interior. Highly recommended!

A nice and cosy restaurant which is directly located at the highway from Prague to Bruno. The food is delicious and priceworthy as well. But they have only a Czech Menu and you need to translate it for your own. Please go to the restaurant instead of the Mc Donalds, which is beside of it.

FOOD DRINKS
We ordered 4 different dishes. The Svickova with Czech dumblings for 195 CZK, was very delicous and the meat was perfectly cooked. The portion was not good and the sauce was not too sweet and had good taste.
The Duck with red cabbage and dumblings for 240 CZK was good as well. The meat was not dry and had a good taste. the red cabbage with some apple was great and a good paring to the meat. Only the dumblings were a little bit to solid and very chewy, but still ok.
The fried cheese with French Fries for 175 CZK was a good portion and the cheese was very good cooked, because it was a little bit melted. The French fries were delicious as well.
The stuffed chicken with croquettes was a decent dish and had a good taste as well.
We could recommend all the dishes.

SERVICE
Only some waitress spoke English but you can interact with everyone and point on the menu card for the dish that you want. There are alle friendly and will help you as much as they can.

RESTAURANT
The restaurant is a little bit old fashioned and has a country style, but it was cosy and nice as well. There are only some places inside and the have no outside sitting area.

LOCATION
The restaurant is located directly at the D1 Highway from Prague to Bruno. There are some parking space for the car. The restaurant is beside a McDonalds and my preference is to visit this restaurant instead of the Mc Donalds.

Perfect restaurant in outskirt location exactly on the autobahn with taste local food and atmosphere. Strongly recommend.

Realy nice place to eat. Homemade cuisine hide behind the McDonald. I strongly recommend fryed cheese especially from Olomuniec. All dishes are served with fresh vegetables. Also vegeterian people will find something for them. They served good Czech beer , hot wine and good coffee.

If you are driving through here this is an amazing place!

Can’t believe people flock to the McDonald’s adjacent and ignore this. Food 100x better - super generous portions served just as quickly as mcd and about same price, great service, parking. Eat Czech in Czech Republic !

I recently had an amazing dining experience at Formanka. The food was exceptional, with a menu that combines traditional and contemporary dishes. The flavors were superb, and the presentation was impressive. The service was outstanding, and the staff was attentive and knowledgeable. The ambiance was charming and inviting. I highly recommend Formanka for a memorable dining experience.

We had a lunch stop here during our drive from Dresden to Bratislava. The place was great, the food amazing, if you are traveling or in the area you should try some authentic food here.

It is a very cozy, stylish, cute place. The garden is beautiful, well maintained.
You can dine both indoors and outdoors.
Craft products (special syrups for example) are available.
The foods and drinks are very delicious.

English and German communication is a bit problematic but they are very helpful and hospitable.
Unfortunately there is no credit card payment option. But the euro is very welcome.
Definitely worth to visit this nice restaurant!

Such an amazing restaurant! We always try to stop by when driving on the D1. The food is delicious and the staff are really nice too. The place is very clean and tidy. A must if you're hungry and want some authentic Czech food!

What is it with Czech restaurant's and the music. The restaurant was realy pretty the service was good the food was good. Only the somewhat to loud techno music in the background. That was realy pity.😢

Perfect family style restaurant on way to Brno. Forget about McDonald's, park 50 meters behind it and get a great meal. Everything is looking like home made, tastes awesome. Menu is not long, you can pick in two minutes. Staff is very friendly. They do not speak much English, so please be patient with them, but you will get what you have ordered. Cash, cards accepted, even Czech meal vouchers. Try veal stew with mash potatoes, tastes incredible and you will not spend fortune. The best part is then after you eat here, it's only half an hour to get to Brno. 😃😃😃
