Frýdlant is one of the most visited historical buildings in the Czech Republic. The original castle from the middle of the 13th century, expanded in the 16th century by a Renaissance castle, became the property of the famous warlord Albrecht of Wallenstein in the 17th century. The last owners, the Clam-Gallas, made the castle collections available to the public as early as 1801, making Frýdlant the oldest castle museum in Central Europe. The entrance to the castle area is the same as two hundred years ago via a drawbridge. From the Swedish courtyard, the path continues up to the large castle courtyard and from there it climbs up a steep path to the castle.

Beautiful castle and sourrondings. We have not entered the castle rooms as we have a dog but it is worth to see even without that:) entrance to the main square and sourroindings for free, even with a dog. It is a short walk, about 15 mins from the city center.

Friedland. We are greeted by a free car park and after just a few minutes' walk uphill we are at the ticket office of the castle, which is built imposingly on the rock. We choose the historical castle tour in Polish. Here you are very close to the border triangle of Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic, which is why many Poles spend their holidays here. I don't care if I don't understand Czech or Polish, because I get my reading text in German. The castle with the characteristic 60 m high tower was built in the 13th century and was initially owned by the Raden family. It was she who had a Renaissance castle built in the 16th century. It was decorated with amazing sgraffitos that were rediscovered in the 1960s. With the failure of the uprising in 1621, the family lost their estates and the new owner became Wallenstein, who was now also called Duke of Frydland. However, he rarely visited the castle. Nevertheless, it became very popular as "Wallenstein's Castle", so that it was opened to the public in 1801 by the then owner Count Clam-Gallas. It is one of the oldest castle museums in the Czech Republic and is richly furnished with beautiful and authentic furniture in good condition.

One of the most beautiful manor houses in the area, unique through its fusion of a renaissance castle and a baroque chateau, as well as its mostly intact interiors. There is also a very nice park with a small pond right next to the castle.

It is worth of visit. One of the few castles that have never been burned or destroyed. Take an hour in the castle tour and another one in the palace. After the tours you can eat great pancakes on the courtyard. There is a nice brewery near the castle.

This castle sightseeing trip takes up to 2h. Its not so big but for sure has a nice history and a lot of inventory still kept behind this castle walls. Currently government owned it was a worthwhile visit.

Since 1799, this is the first castle in Central Europe to be turned into a museum. The museum contains the most complete 'castle interior European collection' I have ever seen and everything is in an exceptionally good condition. The original medieval castle from 1207 and has been partly renovated in the Renaissance style. The castle has endured turbulent historically significant times, which is reflected in the fascinating furnishings and interiors. We received a nice tour with committed, expert explanation.
Parking within 10 minutes walking distance. Also a starting point for nature walks and visits to the local brewery.

One of the most interesting and striking castles I've visited in the Czech Republic. The contrast of styles between early castle and the later Renaissance 'extensions' means you effectively see multiple styles of castles in one. The tour is defined worth it to see the fantastic interiors. Highly recommended.

One of the most 'well-preserved' castle in Czech Republic. Tour is bit long on the other hand, absolutely brilliant compared to other castles to see what's inside. Every room and hall looks as if someone is still living there. Also located on the hill with a good park surrounding by.. You'll be easily ensorcelled.

Another castle in the area, I strongly recommend to visit there with a tour guide. The place itself seems a bit forgotten, abandoned and wet. Being one of the biggest Czechs castles I would expect it to be kept in better condition. Still worth to visit a spend some hours onsite.

Absolutely top one to visit, and see how people lived more than 100, or even more years ago. Very large castle with widely various architecture styles. From medieval times through renaissance till the second Civil War. It is also museum of Old furniture and living equipment. All perfectly conserved and still usable. Plenty of interesting medieval weapons, collection of tobacco pipes, porcelain dishes etc. You can see and feel how people lived in the past.
