This place was a delight to visit. They had all the standard souvenirs, but with the added addition of having a completely functional woodworking factory out back. It is completely green as it is powered by a water wheel.

Furthermore, you can watch artisans at work as they paint (by hand) some of the nicer knickknacks and bric-a-brac.

The store as well sells a full line of tchotchkes.

Truly a stop to make while traveling through Sarchi.

Not only did they have a wide variety of souvenirs, but a fully functional water powered wood shop. There were photo opportunities in every corner. It was a joy to watch the artisans paint articles unique to Sarchi village.

Fun place where carts are made locally and decorated in the traditional style. Given that agriculture has been such a prominent part of Costa Rica's economy, these carts were very important in the past, before automobiles were available. The entire operation runs off water power.

This is a huge shop! Plenty of choices. It can be pricey depending on your choice of souvenirs. Better go with enough time because you will have a hard time deciding what to take with you.

I'm not much for tourist stops and in general the word "souvenir" sends me running in the opposite direction, but this place was way cool.

The store itself has a decent array of artisan objects Tobias souvenirs but the cool bit is a 100-plus year-old factory building tucked in behind the shop. Still in used today for variety of woodworking, the factory originally produced ox carts--which you can still get here today.

delayed drill press bandsaw and other tools in the shop are all powered by a water wheel. It was incredible seeing 100-year-old tools still an operation. A true treasure.

Stop in, and do yourself a favor taking the 10 minute tour of the factory-- then while you're there buy a locally made souvenir and support local artisans. You won't regret it.

I highly recommend visiting this place. It is a piece of history and a work of art. The people are extremely nice, and if you ask they give you a free guided tour of their 1920s oxcart factory. You can later stop by the park nearby and see the world's largest oxcart. They a great gift shop too. I loved it!

Very cool and historic. They explain and show how they built carts with water power and how they hand paint them. Beautiful and worth the visit. They have some high quality souvenirs that we had a hard time finding in other places.

So many great vignettes for photos and high quality souvenirs. Unfortunately, the day we were there, they didn't have the water wheel going.

An informative tour to see how the wheels for the oxvarts are made, and how the artists handpainted the artifacts. Big gift shop to get the souvenirs.

I’ve been to a lot of places and this is the best souvenir store I’ve ever been to. Hand painted items, tons of magnets, T-shirts, shot glasses, figurines, etc.. Everything you would want in a souvenir shop

Great stop for a little bit of history. The woodworking shop is powered by a big waterwheel that powers a number of woodworking machines, such as a bandsaw and lathe. The area where the artists paint the ox carts and other items was interesting and watching the painters at their work was incredible in the artistry and detail. Many lovely items to buy in the shop.
