The most beautiful national park I saw in Costa Rica. It's very pristine and original with countless beautiful plants and animals to see. It is fortunately also hardly visited by people, which I really enjoyed as you were even better able to look for birds and other animals. We started at he Pocosol station, which was a bit tricky to reach due to the road conditions but it was definitely worth it. You will be able to see a very huge waterfall, places of volcanic activity, a beautiful lake and much more.

Beautiful rainforest, the road towards the forest is spectacular but definitely not for the faint of heart. 4x4 is needed. Saw some monkeys and tucans. People at the station were very kind and helpful.

Great secluded hike deep in the rainforest. The drive to get there is rough and as of 07/2019 Google Maps takes you the wrong way. There should be new yellow signs every couple KM on the road. 4x4 recommended. Waterfall view at the end of the hike is great

We had a fantastic time at Bosque Eterno de Los Ninos! A great spot for birders: we saw Keel Billed Toucans, Long Tailed Manakins, and Three Wattled Bell Birds among others. The wonderful person at the front desk, Sol, gave us a great explanation of the trails, lookout points, places to look for wildlife, and the history of the conservation of the forest. She was super friendly and made us feel very welcome! The trails felt mostly intermediate/easy, but the Jaguar trail was pretty intense with switchbacks and steep inclines. We worked up a sweat and had an awesome time 🙂

El Burrito hike. Mau was our guide. Very good hike and you meet a local farmer who lives on the hillside at the end for fruit and coffee. Great experience.

Amazing undisturbed research station in the childrens eternal rainforest
We were helped by an extremely polite person at the station. To find our our way around. We saw a hotspring. Thanks to another
post we took the northern route as suggested and it was fine. 4x4 needed.

Google maps will lead you to very steep, rocky roads and eventually a wooden swaying bridge that won’t hold your car. The river below is beautiful. If you walk from this point as we did, prepare for a vigorous, and I mean vigorous walk uphill for 3.5km

The park itself is lovely. Off the beaten path. Great wildlife and beautiful waterfalls. Staff is kind and helpful.

Visited with a 6 and 3 year old and had a blast. It was a perfect way to introduce little ones to the rainforest without having to navigate rugger paths. The children's house was awesome and educational and the hiking trails were fantastic. I highly recommend this place.

Enough to do to spend several days in this area. Out of all of CR, I heard the most birds in this area.

We did the bajo del Tigre night walk, with a guide. Adam was our guide and if you are lucky to have him, you will see how much he loves his job :) The nature is absolutely incredible and it was such a unique experience to walk through the forest at night. We saw many birds, insects, spiders and 2 tarantula’s. It is the luck of the draw and I am sure there is so much more! Amazing experience!

Amazing hike. Trails are beautiful and really capture the rainforest feeling. The northern route along Río Peñas Blancas is well maintained and easy to access. DO NOT take the road along the southern shore of Río Peñas Blancas. This route requires you to cross a wooden hanging bridge that is in complete disrepair. The bridge is supposed to be closed, but neighboring properties keep removing the closure tape to continue use for their own purposes. The park employees were horrified to learn the bridge was still being used. DO NOT USE THE WOODEN HANGING BRIDGE. If you find yourself at the bridge, turn around and use the northern route. It only takes an additional 30 minutes and the park is well worth taking the extra time to visit.

The Children's Eternal Rainforest has two field stations and one separate reserve that is right on the main road in Monteverde, very near the Cheese Factory, called Bajo de Tigre. Bajo is the easiest to reach but the field stations are more of a challenge. San Gerardo field station requires walking 5 km carrying your stuff (backpack!). Pocosol can be reached in a 4 wheel drive vehicle in 40 minutes or so. Both are remote and boast staggering levels of biodiversity. Lodging is clean and comfy, meals delicious. Trails are well maintained and provide access to the surroundings of each station. Hot water and power are found at both stations. Reservations can be made through Monteverde Conservation League. Great destination for the ecotourist, birder, naturalist.

This is a true forest! the animals hide and are camouflage! This ain't Disneyland! You need to look under leafs, rocks and sit still to see the animals! They are definitely there!
