National Shrine Basilica of Our Lady of Las Lajas

Beautiful church in spectacular setting. Gets busy at times but there is space to walk around and escape the crowds.

The place has lots of small food and souvenir stands as well as picnic places and paths around the the river. There are lots of dogs that wait for food. The place is a beautiful wedding scenery and suitable for other festivities or small family gatherings. The Teleferico takes 20min one way and costs 30k pesos round trip, they also accept USD (we paid 6.85$ per person). Parking costs 1USD or 4 pesos.

Gorgeous semi-gothic ( I believe ) style church.
You may drive there and park on the top of the hill and make your down via stairs through the local market, it is very safe and picturesque. Not very wheel chair friendly but you can definately make it down with the help of others.
You can also drive to the cable car statation park and pay ( not sure about the parking fee )and pay about 10 thousand pesos ( 2.5 US dollars ) each way. The cable car will take you right to the church with only a 2 Flys of stairs to go.

No doubt this is place is absolutely lovely, is really small once you are there, but the setup is beautiful. Worth to visit, get into the museum and spend the 10 mins watching the video, well worth it.
Do Not take the cable car, is the slowest on earth, expensive and the views are nothing special.

It is one of the humanity heritage monuments that we have in Colombia.

The construction of the church began in January of 1916 and finished in August of 1949. Today it represents an important place to come and meditate for the people of all Colombia and for many Catholics from the north of Ecuador most of all.

In the night you will see some splendid illumination of the church over all the corners of the church giving a splendid game of colors for the people that can have the chance to visit it in the night.

Over the day you van have a better perspective of the magnificent place that is attached in the rocks and and the bridge that communicates to the other side of the mountain and in the bottom you can see and hear the river passing.

So amazing, definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

The Sanctuary of "Nuestra señora del Rosario de Las Lajas" is a temple for Christian worship and veneration. This sanctuary is located in Ipiales, department of Nariño, in southern Colombia (at the border with Ecuador), it's a good place to visit. You can go to the museum, church, gift shop, etc.

Very beautiful church, waterfall near by, many shops and nice views. Definitely worth a visit. It can get very packed though and it's pretty touristy too.

Simply stunning place. A must if you are passing by Ipiales. A taxi ride from Ipiales to the entrance of the Santuario is roughly USD3. Once there you'll need to walk down from the top all the way to the church and park. At about 5:30pm the lights of the church light up and the colour show starts. The nature are the place is breath-taking too.

One beautiful destination is the South part of Colombia. Attend Mass for a nice spiritual experience, then venture around for shopping and try the food. Very nice place for picture takers, family travel. Take the Cable ride to make it even smoother.

Very peaceful and quiet place, beautiful church and valley. A perfect way to spend half a day near the border.

It's easy to reach from Ipiales. You can take the shared taxis for 2500 pesos. The place organized as a park, too. So you can also bring your children. The Gothic temple is very well taken care of and the environment is available to spend some time. You can easily spend half a day here and turn back the town easily.

Totally astounding place, woth visiting! From Ipiales there is a collectivos taxi only for a 2500 COP per person, 4 people in the car, which is like nothing. The church is brathtaking and waterfall at the end of the road is wonderful as well.

Built in honor of the Virgin, the magnificent cathedral is the most famous landmark in Colombia and a popular place of pilgrimage.
The Church of Las Lajas is located in the canyon of the Guaitara River, near the border of Colombia and Ecuador. Its main relic is the Senora de las Lajas rock icon. According to legend, in 1754, in the local cave, a poor Indian woman and her deaf-mute daughter witnessed the appearance of the Virgin, who saved the sick girl from death and healed. After that, an image of a woman with a baby in her arms appeared on the wall of the cave. The rock icon of the Mother of God was recognized as healing and since then has become a place of pilgrimage for numerous believers from Colombia and Ecuador.

Beautiful church and area - a must see if in the area. You can take a collectivo from the bus station for 3,500 (walk past taxi rank to fast end and there are signs). Entry to church and the surrounding area is free. There is an optional museum which isn't anything special, but entry is only 5,000. There is a cable car for 15,000 each way - you can just take a single fare after your visit and then catch a bus back to town for 1,800. The cable car doesn't give particularly great views, and it is more phaff, so don't consider it a must do. You could see main things in an hour, allow 2-3 hours to walk around all the paths to see the church from all angles and see everything.

I like most people, I assume, visit here while crossing the border and if you are in the same situation and wondering if it's worth it than trust me it is.
Once you reach the main bus terminal look for white vehicles. You can get a taxi for about 8000 while shared taxi is 2200. The journey is only about 15 minutes. From the taxi stand it's about 10 minutes down a hill. It's a really beautiful site and building. You can do it in about 90 minutes. Normally border days you want to get over with asap but this makes it a good day. Visit if you can.

Great view. Not much else to say. The best (and only) thing to see in Ipiales.
