Montezuma Rainforest Ecolodge

Situated in the Tatama National Park, Montezuma's is a world-class birdwatching destination. Considering the location in a primary cloud forest, it is surprisingly easy to get to, and once there you are in a dreamland of ecological wonder!

Michelle and her family are great hosts and knowledgeable guides to the area. Our room gave breathtaking views and, as it was located a 10 minute walk from the main lodge, gave us a fun little adventure each morning before the guiding started.

The area is alive with bird life, as a (previously) non-birder I was quickly enthralled and had to remind myself several times a day that I was not in fact dreaming!

The lodge has a number of bird feeders, where you can watch the hummingbirds, tanagers and agoutis while you sip the excellent coffee (and finally work out what all those buttons and settings on your camera do!)

We had Joel as our guide for 2 days, and I could not have imagined anyone better. He is incredibly knowledgeable about the park and its varying ecosystems and species, and is a great communicator and was able to teach me (a novice) a great deal while simultaneously giving my partner the answers to her expert-level questions.

Duverney was our driver; his skill with the vehicle and his helpful and friendly nature meant we were always looked after in the field.

I will never forget the time spent here, the wonderful sights and sounds, but also the great people who took good care of us and made the experience so rewarding.

This is an amazing area of High elevation forest rammed with Colombian wildlife. We saw many birds and insects and is a botanists dream.

Truly a birder's lodge. The guides are knowledgeable; they know all the songs and calls. A hot lunch is delivered to you each day as you look for birds along the Montezuma Road. The lodging is plenty comfortable—though not luxurious—and while there is no wifi available in the individual cabins, you can access it at the main lodge. If you are looking for the quintessential Colombian birding experience, look no further. Allow yourself 3 nights for the full experience. With the Tapasco family of Montezuma Cloudforest Lodge, you are in good hands.

One of the best places for birders , i have ever been. The hospitality was great too. The Tapasco family does a very great job.

Wonderful location, owner is on premises and runs the place, great guides. I read that it was rated as one of the five best birdwatching lodges in Colombia and I can understand why. It's for serious birdwatchers but I can recommend it for anyone who enjoys nature and being outdoors. Don't expect Ritz Carlton luxury, it's rustic but fantastic.

Having first visited Montezuma Rainforest Eco Lodge 6 years ago, it was delightful to see all the many great improvements, in March 2022. There is a new building with nice bedrooms, comfortable beds, and private bathrooms with hot water showers. The Tatamá National Park has also built 7 new covered shelters along the road.

Birders start the day eating a yummy hot breakfast as dawn is breaking at the summit shelter, surrounded by hummingbirds coming to the feeders. Later, at another shelter, we ate a delicious hot lunch brought up the mountain by motorcycle. All the meals are included and were wonderful.

And yes, the stunning birds are still there with talented guides to help you get great looks. A few highlights: Greater Sythebill, Tanager Finch, Olive Finch, Toucan Barbet, Fruit Eaters, Black Solitaire, Munchique Wren, Black & Gold Tanagers, Gold Ring Tanagers, etc. And of course, all the fabulous hummingbirds at the many feeders along the road and at the lodge.

Thanks to the Tapasco family, the Montezuma Rainforest Eco Lodge continues to improve, while protecting the surrounding natural beauty. A great stop on any Colombian birding trip.

Montezuma rainforest is one of the top birding destination in Colombia. Within the Tatamá NP this reserve and ecolodge provide to the traveler with amazing opportunities of doing wildlife tourism activities. The lodge services are the best: restaurant, laundry, guiding, lodging. Highly recommended.

Bellísimo el parque natural, el paisaje , para avistamiento de aves es excelente, Montezuma Lodge cuenta con una familia muy amable muy comprometida con el tema de conservación, avistamiento , favorecer la región . El alojamiento y laa comida son muy buenos.

Uno de los mejores sitios en el Paisaje Cultural Cafetero y en Colombia para el avistamiento de aves. Este lugar es un ejemplo de resistencia en un territorio con una gran Biodiversidad .

Un lugar excelente para el avistamiento de aves en el occidente del maravilloso país de Colombia, con un porcentaje de endemismos y casi-endemismos, muy importante para los registros de la zona del Parque Nacional Natural Tatama, ya que cuenta con la influencia biológica del choco biogeográfico, por su variación altitudinal y la conservación de los ecosistemas allí ubicados

Uno de los mejores sitios para observar aves en Risaralda, la atención es muy buena por la familia tapasco, mujeres emprendedoras y enamoradas de su ofició, sin duda alguna de esos lugares que merecen ser visitados muchas veces

Es un excelente sitio para observar aves y orquideas. La comida u las habitaciones son biemas y limpias
