Isla Fuerte Ecohouse

Isla Fuerte Ecohouse is a small boutique ocean front resort. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The onsite restaurant offers excellent made to order coastal cuisine, designed to accommodate ones schedule and taste. We had the pleasure of working with Felipe, who speaks perfect English and does absolutely everything to accommodate the guests. In short, Felipe is awesome. The resort is well constructed with native materials and finishes. It can get a little warm at night in the rooms without air conditioning, but we got accustomed to it in short order. The property offers day trips, from snorkeling the numerous coral reefs to interesting tours of this small, but lovely island paradise. If one is in need of recharging and simple relaxation, Isla Fuerte Ecohouse can't be beat.

If you're considering a stay at Eco House, some quick tips I wish I had known:

-- Bring a water bottle. One of the best parts of this hotel is that they have a filtered water station. You'll go through a lot of water, and it's nice to see a hotel provide water to their guests, rather than insisting on selling bottled water. Let's not mention all the plastic waste avoided!

-- Pack a good insect repellent!

-- You'll thank yourself later if you bring boots / hiking shoes. Getting around the island involves walking some rocky trails. Pack a flashlight for getting around the island at night.

-- Remember you're on an island! EcoHouse does a great job of respecting sustainability measures while also offering guests amenities and comforts.

-- The hotel has a restaurant; great food. There are a handful of other options on the island.

-- There are no ATMs or banks on the island. Bring cash!

Wifi - works well. There are safes in the rooms.

The "rooms" are your own bungalow a short walk into the wilderness, so you are constantly surrounded by the sounds of nature. One of the oldest and largest trees on the island rests in front of the bungalows, making for a beautiful sight. The rooms themselves are simple, consisting of just the beds, a few stools, and a lockable closet for storing items while out of the room, since the rooms themselves don't lock. There is, of course, the more secure safe box in the bathroom for storing valuables. All beds have mosquito nets, a must-have in warm, tropical climates to protect yourself from being eaten alive by bugs at night. The service is fine, and the food is fantastic and decently priced.
The island itself was gorgeous. The coraline beaches have pretty fine sand, which was a pleasant surprise for me, and the water wasn't full of algae like most other beaches. The people living there are very friendly and are ready and willing to help you as best as they can. Do expect to walk a lot, about 15 mins to the village, 15 more to the largest beach, and about an hour to the other end of the island.
For me personally, SCUBA-diving in the coral reefs just off-shore of the island was the highlight of the trip. If you're willing to spend about 2 half days taking the mini-course and doing the training (or already have a certification), I'd recommend it.

Excellent place to relax. Awesome installation love what they are doing to be a net zero hotel. Would return in a heartbeat. Will be back with friends to have a great time I recommend the sunset tour they offer. The chef is great and cooks delicious dishes, as good as any five star restaurant is a great little hotel with superb service. Will be back...

Great lodging experience in Isla Fuerte! Our host Clara was super helpful on how to get there and she coordinated our way back to mainland. We loved the open spaces and the bathrooms located half outside: nothing like taking a shower under the stars). There are lots of dogs and cats (and peacocks!) on site so be aware of it if it's not your thing - we personally loved it! The only disappointment was the food. The breakfast was okay but we thought 25 000 COP was a bit expensive for what we got for lunch and dinner. But there are lots of great options in Puerto Limon, the caseria nearby. Also, the flies in the dining area were a bit of an inconvenience: fly traps would help greatly. But overall, we had a GREAT experience at Ecohouse.

Grab a beer at the small bar and relax on the wooden decks overlooking the cove. Venture out in dirt paths to visit a couple of trees and walk through narrow town streets.

If you're feeling more active, there's a PADI dive shack on site, kayaks and waveboards.

Excelente hotel, sus instalaciones han sido diseñadas y pensadas para lograr una verdadera integración con la naturaleza sin que se genere un efecto muy nocivo por la actividad turística. La atención y el servicio es d excelente calidad. Muy recomendado para parejas en plan romántico y grupos de amigos que disfruten de un ambiente tranquilo y natural.

Hermoso y genial hotel en una de las mejores ubicaciones que ofrece Isla Fuerte. Se toman muy enserio el compromiso con el medio ambiente. Si desean un descanso verde, reparador y amigable con el planeta este es el destino ideal. También ofrece excelentes planes para disfrutar y conocer al máximo la zona

Un excelente lugar para descansar. A todo el frente del mar tiene el bar y zona de descanso. Las habitaciones están distribuidas algunas en el módulo principal y otras en la parte de atrás del hotel (tipo cabaña) al lado de "El árbol que camina". La comida es deliciosa, muy buena sazón y presentación. El enfoque de conservación de naturaleza es muy loable, funciona con energía solar y cuenta con un área protegida de especies nativas de fauna y flora. Se pueden contratar actividades acuáticas o caminatas por diferentes senderos de la Isla. Queda a unos 20 minutos de la Playa San Diego y unos 15 del Pueblo Puerto Limón. Lo único que mejoraría son los colchones por unos más confortables. El personal que allí labora te resuelve tus inquietudes y está presto a colaborar pese a que la actitud generalizada es que son parcos, no demuestran simpatía. Los desplazamientos los realizamos desde Medellín en vuelo a Montería, allí nos recogió un taxi hasta Paso Nuevo (2 horas aproximadamente) tanto de ida como de regreso al aeropuerto y en Paso Nuevo nos embarcamos en una lancha hasta el Ecohouse (30 a 40 minutos). Los traslados se coordinan con el personal del hotel. Espero volver pronto a este paraíso natural, donde el descanso es la palabra que mejor describe esta experiencia.

El hotel es un excelente lugar para desconectarse totalmente. En general es muy limpio, todos los días le hacen aseo a las habitaciones y tienden la cama, lo cual me pareció un buen detalle.
Me encantó la vista hacia el mar desde el lugar que tienen destinado para ello, con suficientes sillas de diferentes estilos y las mallas para acostarse.
En cuanto a la comida, hay pocas opciones pero me parece que con las que ofrecen se adaptan a todo el público.
Lo único que les diría que deben mejorar es el café, de resto me gustó mucho todo. Seguramente volveré.
