Alma's Family Restaurant

My husband & I have been in Newfoundland for a week. All the places, from st John's to port aux Basques we have eaten from, does not compare to the fish and chip meal we had here.
The pan fried/& deep fried cod was just to die for, cooked to perfection!! The fries are homemade , the gravy was delicious.
Kudos to the cooks and staff!!! 🌞

The experience is awesome! We came for supper the night before, then breakfast in the morning. We thought they opened at 7 and came here at 7, but they opened at 8. They still let us in and said they won't turn anyone down! Food was amazing, the service was extremely friendly, and the atmosphere was very relaxing and beautiful.

We stopped for breakfast after arriving on the morning ferry. We were pleasantly surprised by the value and quality of the food. Service was great.

Had halibut for dinner it was so delicious if I had dropped a piece on the floor I would’ve picked it up and eaten it
Went back for breakfast absolutely delicious and plenty of it loved it all our severs were great and friendly.

The people here are absolutely lovely. The coffee’s hot, the food is delicious, and super cheap for the amount you’re getting. Right place to go for a good hearty meal.

The breakfast is awesome and tastes fantastic. The worker's are wonderful too. I can't figure out how come this place isn't busier.

Arrived here based on a mention in Lonely Planet Canada. From the outside it doesn't look like much. A random single door in a retail park (though we suspect Google sent us to the back door). We arrived at 1940, super close to closing. The girls at Alma's were very accommodating. They answered questions about the food and didn't rush us even though we were there past closing time.

And the food - my goodness. The fish burger was superb! Perfectly cooked fish. In fact better battered fish then I've had anywhere in the UK! GREAT tartar sauce too. The veggie poutine was maybe not the best I've had, but I certainly couldn't knock off a star for it - and the fries themselves were great. Bravo!

Had a really nice fish and chips before boarding the ferry back to Nova Scotia. Cheap, but really good. Also had pie, which was not sweetened and quite tart, very pleasant. Very friendly staff, quick service.

Delicious food which came out fast and piping hot. Super friendly there.

Big scrumptious breakfast. Perfect to take the edge off an overnight ferry ride.

This is a great dinner. It's basic food but done really well. Satisfying food, friendly staff and a clean restaurant. Priced well this is a must on your trip.. enjoy!

Halibut steak for my wife and I. delicious 😋, 2 pcs of pie, #1. Fries could of been alittle crisper but all and all great little family dinner, reasonable price , clean and super friendly staff,thanks

Highly recommend coming here for breakfast when you get off the ferry in the morning. The chef knows her eggs! It was made just perfect! Just simple egg yet haven't have such perfect egg for a while!
Customer service is just pure wonderfulness!
Our first meal on the first time in New Foundland it's just so great!

We started with two bowls of fish chowder, followed with a roast beef dinner and mozzarella bacon burger and fries. Everything was steaming hot and very tasty. The price was very reasonable.

We came straight for Breakfast after staying in our Camper overnight off the Ferry. The parking lot is large enough to park our truck and trailer. The food was delicious, large portions and friendly service.

We came here after getting off the boat at Port aux Basque. Although the place does not look impressive the food is very good. I would eat here again after riding the boat to Newfoundland.

Great breakfast. Some of the best sausages I’ve had, cooked perfectly. Homemade toast. What’s not to like?

What can I say about this place another one of my childhood staples. Since it's near the school they have lunchtime specials for the kids, they have a seniors discount, their food portions are always huge, they even have a sensory time for people with disabilities don't see that in very many places I tell you, food is always great, service is great, they always do stuff for the community and all in all I hope they always keep the great service and maybe lower some of the prices just a little once they can but if u do go to Port Aux Basques make sure this is one place you have on your bucket list
