Black Salt Cafe - CLOSED FOR THE SEASON

I live in Vancouver and accidentally discovered this little gem on a road trip. The food is absolutely delicious and the veggie burger is hands down one of the best burgers I ever had. The first time I tried it, I actually had a tough time understanding what was happeninb to me lol. Totally unexpected. Aside from that, the outside area is beautiful and puts your soul at ease. Highly recommended!

Wow! Todd and Terry are an AMAZING team. Service, rapport and atmosphere are fantastic, but nothing beats the food! Outstanding dinner of a selection of tapas. Can’t wait to come over again for another special dinner.

Highly recommend. A go to place when in Crawford Bay. Amazing atmosphere and patio. The tapas and desserts are first class. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
When you go to this little gem you need to take time as they are short staffed; similar to many other places during the pandemic reopening era.

Five of us went for lunch and it was so good. We had made a reservation for 12:30am which was wise as we had stopped in once before a few years ago but there was no room. We ordered a large plate of their shoe-string fries to share and they were tasty and ample for sharing. At the table we tried: gf or “naked” versions of the salmon burger and the tandoori chicken. They were served on a bed of arugula with onions, tomatoes and dressing which all were very good. Others had the smoked meat sandwich on rye with a kombucha mustard and raved about it. Our vegetarian ordered the falafel wrap and it was large and he said great.
The lady server was friendly, helpful and efficient l. Prices were reasonable and the menu had lots of appealing options. We sat on the patio and they provided umbrellas for shade. We would certainly recommend this little cafe as a great place to eat 👍

A fantastic place to eat. I had the smoked meat sandwich and my wife had a great chicken salad. You can sit outside in a beautiful garden. Highly recommended and if you come from Nelson on the ferry it is easy to get to.

It's been a few years since we were at Black Salt and it still has excellent food! We love their Tapas, and their polenta fries are a favourite of ours!

Superb food incl. homemade drinks, perfect caprese salad, tasty veg burgers and skinny fries, luscious deserts that say mmmm as you bite into them and spot-on macchiato and flat white. I can’t recall a more consistent run of quality food. No need for any other reason to stop in Crawford Bay.

The food, staff and atmosphere here are amazing. I’ve seen a few negative reviews related to the time it takes for service but to be honest, if you go there and take time to relax and enjoy the wonderful patio, the staff and food are VERY worth any wait. We were there last night and had to come back a second night just because the food was spectacular. All of the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Todd made some amazing after dinner drink recommendations which juts added to the experience. Definitely the place to be if you’re in for a unique and what I imagine to be a wonderfully authentic Kootenay dining experience. 10/10

The service here is great and the atmosphere is amazing! Plus, the food is absolutely delicious, and the drinks are really good too! When they're extremely busy (which it seems they often are since they're such a good restaurant) it does take some time to get your food, but that's to be expected, and the staff are really nice! I definitely would recommend eating here, just be prepared to have to wait a bit for your food if they're busy.

We go to black salt every year on our bike trip. Todd/Teri and staff are fantastic. Service is a little slow but the food is well worth the wait. I highly recommend this place. 👌

Beautiful little patio with very delicious drinks! ( Their sangria is definitely the best I had in a lonnnng time ) and delicious Appy!! So good 🤤🤤

The food and drinks here are phenomenal!!! The patio is perfect and the inside is cozy. Unbelievable food and drinks.

Amazingly good food. Had the croque madam - one of the best I’ve ever had. And the tandoori chicken wrap with pomme frites was good as well. Foxy ginger to drink, my wife had an earl grey tea from an actual teapot. Everything was superb!

This has the quaintest patio with beautiful plants! I love it. Indoors is also lively! The food I consider “gourmet-like” and very tasty with significant portions.
Everyone also loves the ‘skinny’ fries 👍🏼

Menu is creative and food very fresh and well prepared. Prices are very good. Service was pleasant and prompt. The outdoor patio is filled with an assortment of potted plants and flowers and nicely spaced intimate tables. So awesome, we took the BC Ferry (Balfour to Crawford Bay)two days later, to repeat! AMAZING.

I have eaten here many times now....and I love it! Amazing quality and friendly service. Don't forget to try one of their many freshly made desserts and coffee to die for!

This was a great surprise. We stopped for coffee and maybe a take away breakfast sandwich or something. Ended up getting sucked into their menu and sitting down for a meal. It was outstanding. Staff was awesome. Food was awesome. Would definitely come again!

Service was a tad slow but they were pretty short staffed. It didn't detract much from the experience though as the patio was nice to sit on and again, our server was great.

Black salt reminds me of Crawford Bay, small, quaint, beautiful and full of meaning. When I think about a restaurant in a very small town, I would never guess one could be so good. The atmosphere, staff, food are very nice. The food is like what you would get at a top-notch restaurant in a big city, but without the crowds, the lineups and the hustle and bustle. Black salt is worth stopping in at every single time I go through. I would recommend this to anybody who likes quality
