Isola Pizza (was Chez Carl)

My wife and I were regulars at Chez Carl for many years. When the restaurant reopened after the pandemic, we were looking forward to dining out again. The first time we went back, to what was now Isola Pizza, we were, unfortunately, terribly disappointed by the quality of the pizzas. The taste was fine, although not the same as before, but the toppings had shrunk considerably. Not enough sauce, not enough cheese, not enough basil, not enough of anything and the edge of both pizzas was at least 2 inches of just baked dough. Aside from the lack of value for the price, a pizza that is too much dough and too little of anything else just doesn't make a satisfying meal. We went back a second time a week later, had the same experience and decided to call it quits.

Last Sunday, with gusto for a pizza, we thought of Israel, one of the waiters at Isola (Chez Carl) who has been working there for many years and always took care of us with friendliness, warmth and efficiency. So we decided to give Isola another try and we are very happy we did. The Caesar salad we shared was delicious -fresh, crisp, with just the right amount of dressing (to our taste) and the Margherita and Rustica respectively were probably the best we have ever eaten there, including the Chez Carl years. We were impressed and decided to return last night. Same experience - delicious salad, fantastic pizzas - all at a decidedly fair price it should be noted, considering the overall expense of food in a time of high inflation.

We asked Israel what had changed. He couldn't (or wouldn't, lol) tell us and ultimately it doesn't matter. If Isola maintains the quality we experienced at our last two outings, we're back on board!

Best pizza I ever had in my life. Romantic quiet place, nice decor, cozy and nice background music. Lots of parking. Staff is great. A great place for a date. A must go 😊

This place has a great interior and friendly staff . The soup was delicious - portion was on the small size but it was good size to pair with half a pizza. We got the American pizza, cooked to perfection in a real oven no less! The crust was a tad overdone, when I tried cutting it I, my knife met sufficient resistance to require a more valiant effort. I flung half a slice off the table with the sheer force of my l swift manly cut as the crust shattered under the load of my blade. Me 1, burnt crust 0. I ate it all, including the small section that was slightly charred, I drenched it in the provided chili olive oil to soften its temperament. The pizza here reminded me of home: cape breton, Nova Scotia, where the best pizza in the world is baked.

The food is delicious the service is the best the ambiance is great you dine under the outside umbrellas while eating a succulent burger.

Went since they re opened and the food and service was excellent. The pizza was amazing and the pasta as well. Will come back for sure.

The BEST pizza in Nun's Island/Verdun!! The portions are generous and the ingredients are fresh. Also the staff is super friendly!!
