Kum Hong BBQ Restaurant

I have been coming here for over a decade! If you come here to grab lunch, be sure to expect a lineup. I wish they were open on Sunday's like before. The classic BBQ and Roast pork box with extra Ginger/Onion sauce is a fan favorite. The roast pork skin is so crispy! The duck and BBQ chicken are also excellent options if you don't want pork.

Food quality and taste are excellent. The lady with the cleaver expertly cuts the meat and unlike many other places you don’t end up with burnt bits or too much fat. The sauce/gravy goes really well with the rice and side of ginger & chillies.

The roast pork, bbq pork and roast duck option on rice is $18 which imo is pricey considering you get almost the same amount of meat with a roast pork and bbq pork on rice for $12.

Service is good and there’s often a lineup but they are fairly quick. This is my go to Chinese bbq spot.

Cash only. Very limited seating (super basic, nothing fancy) for maybe 6 people but this is mainly a takeout establishment.

Their barbecue pork is honestly my favorite out of all the places I have had barbecur pork at. I haven't been here in a few years but dropped by recently. Pleasantly surprised to find that their quality has not changed at all!

I am not a fan of rice so I just order barbecue pork, and a side of their ginger green onion sauce to go. Typically, if I'm feeling like making a meal, I'll utilize those two items to make a delicious stir fried noodle dish but been feeling lazy recently so I've been using it for open faced sandwiches on sourdough ✨

Oh! They do also have two sizes when it comes to their ginger green onion sauce, and the ladies do usually confirm with you which size you want before they charge you.

They weigh the meat they chop up for you but I'll attach a photo of their pricing as or January 2024 for ease of referencing.

Amazing BBQ place! They have a super freshly made selection and everything is cooked to perfection!

In my experience, meat is always tender and juicy. They make batches throughout the day, so fresh batches vary. However, even when you get some of the meat at the end of the day, the meat is still not too dry or tough!

Their prices are also amazing. Very reasonable meal and meat prices, with generous portions! You’ll definitely be getting great value if you come here. All transactions are cash only though!

Service is a bit slower than you may expect. They cut the meat per order so it could take some time to get through orders, so don’t come if you’re in a rush! I think it’s worth the wait.

Definitely recommend coming by for BBQ meats, you will not be disappointed! I always get the char siu (BBQ pork) because it’s a classic and delicious. Ask for half fat for that extra juicy flavour!

I have been visiting this restaurant for years. Very friendly people, good BBQ dishes with good price. It is a place for a quick lunch or dinner or just a simple Hong Kong BBQ night:) You always stop by for an authentic taste:) (pictures were taken when we already had several bites)

This is very good! The roast pork and bbq pork are excellent. This lunch combo boxes are great value!

You will never be disappointed by their quality.

The skin of the BBQ pork is still crispy even though it is kept inside a meal box for over an hour.

The taste of their BBQ pork and BBQ duck is just fit. Not too salty.

They are also generous in providing food. This makes their meal boxes be worth every penny.

The two ladies in the restaurant should be saluted. They keep a nice temper and composure even though the line is long. As shown by the photo, the meat is evenly chopped. This reflects a great virtue and professionalism beneath.

This place is amazing! I live in London and whenever I am near I always stop in! The meat is so tender and flavourful and always perfectly cooked. The fat on the roast pork is always rendered out nicely and the skin is crispy perfection. The BBQ pork is amazing!

12 dollars for 2 meats with rice is not a bad deal. Service is good and they ask if u want lean pork of fatty. Which is great. Definitely will come back to try the bbq Chicken.

Delicious food and the customer service is great. The sisters are super nice and today I ordered the wrong sauce and she just let me have it for free. I've had a few experiences where they don't squander over small amounts of money and they give me what I ask for (the correct amount) unlike a few other BBQ shops in the area

I've been coming here since my high school days and the quality has never dropped. I always order the split combo bbq pork / roasted the skin is so crispy. Don't forget to order the tofu box it goes well with the combo.

Another good take out restaurant for Chinese BBQ. I ordered bbq pork and roasted pig and they are all very tasty and tender. The lady who cut the meat did a very neat job, I think presentation does matter. The place looks bright and clean, will visit again!

Simple food but so flavourful. Sauce was not too sweet & roast pork not too salty, perfect balance. Staff was friendly too! Highly recommended

I live in Mississauga and I often make the trip out to the Markham area to get some Kum Hong BBQ. Why? Because this is the best chinese BBQ you will ever find. I've been going here for years now. The lineup is always to the front entrance door but the wait is WAY WORTH IT. Although you can sit and dine in, it's really more intended for take-away. This is a modest little mom & pop operation. They're friendly and they notice when you become a regular. I don't even need to give them my order anymore, I just walk in and they know me. If you come late in the day it's likely the food may have cooled down since the line up usually means the door is propped open. They keep a microwave on site for you to heat things up or you can wait till you get home and reheat it then. But the earlier you get there the more likely the food will be piping hot.

Get what I get, it's the best. Order a "Large" with "BBQ duck, BBQ pork and Roast Pork" with "extra green" which is an onion, salt, ginger and oil mixture which just goes so well with the tender, juicy pork. all together you'll be looking at about $12.50 all in. Fantastic deal for perfectly cooked and perfectly prepared food. More than generous portion sizes. The madam who wields the cleaver can be seen there at her chopping block, preparing the orders from the morning through to the evening, day after day after day. She VERY fairly trims unnecessary fat and bone to give you an expertly prepared meal. This lady works her butt off every day so make sure you tip because they go above and beyond to provide you with a unique product that they're charging at a more than competitive price. Trust me, you'll love it!

(Pro Tip: after you get your take-out container, slip on over to the mcdonalds right beside and grab a mango, pineapple smoothie. It goes wicked with the bbq)

(as for my celiac friends, i'm prrreeettty sure there is soy sauce in the marinades and sauces so i wouldn't call this GF but that doesn't really stop me. It's my go-to cheat treat. BUT I wanna say i've never reacted to it. But this may be because i'm not overly sensitive to trace amounts of gluten. So use your own discretion)

I’ve been coming here for over 8 years now and the quality hasn’t diminished one bit. I must say it’s gotten a little bit pricier over the years but it’s still one of the best Chinese BBQ takeouts I’ve been to.

Remember it’s cash only and sometimes the line can get really long.

Steamed tofu goes hard 🔥 also make sure to get the ginger and green onion sauce 👌🏽👌🏽 not sure if I could call this vegan option but pretty close. There’s another sauce used that I think is derived from animal broth.

One of the best Asian BBQ spot in the Markham/Richmond Hill area.
Go-to for Cha Sui and Roast Pork. It’s well seasoned and beautifully sliced and well presented for take-out. It’s a Cash only
