Eho Hut

Fantastic hut, the view is magical and the hut itself is well kept. There were two hut keepers as of July 2023. One is excellent, great soups, bread, kebabtcheta, great homemade rakia, clean sheets etc. I think his name is Vlado, you will recognize his white discoloured hands, friendly smile and interesting stories. He even gave us free Exo Hut stickers. His prices are cheaper and he provided toilet paper (the tourist is expected to bring their own to remote huts). The hut keepers change shifts every week. The sheets are brought back to a town by horse and laundered there.

The second hut keeper isn't friendly and completely mismanaged a group from Checkia that travelled after our group. They had a terrible experience. So I hear he is quite bad. Rumour has it he will be done after this season.

Be kind to those people, everything arrives by horse and the water from the peak across from the hut. Food, water, alcohol, electricity and toilet paper are luxuries here and aren't to be taken for granted. Enjoy the magic of the Central Bankan National Park :)))

The hut itself is not bad at all. The room was pretty clean, the beds were good. It doesn't have a bathroom but that's not a huge problem. The hosts were really nice. As was the food. But the best thing about the hut is its location. When you get out the first thing you see is an incredible view of Stara Planina. It offers probably the best view you can get there. And I loved it! I highly recommend the hut!!!

Not very easy to reach (around 4-6 hours to reach depending on where you start hiking) but the view from the hut is amazing. There is a nearby peak (Yumruka) where the sunset view is amazing. Also, there is a lovely small chapel next to the hut - from there you can also watch the sunrise above Botev peak - the highest peak of the Balkan mountains.
Of course, you can also spend the night there but make sure to call in advance, especially in summer when all huts are pretty busy. Also, keep in mind that it is an old hut so do not expect fancy bedrooms. Also, they usually offer just a few dishes so bring some food with you in case you are picky.
