Saint Georges

Beautiful piece of architecture.
The Saint-Georges church is located on a rocky outcrop overlooking a meander of the Vesdre. Its choir and its crypt exceeding the surrounding wall of the old fortified city.
It is the precious witness of several eras. Originally stood a Romanesque chapel probably dating from the end of the 12th century; it is reported as early as 1172. This chapel essentially comprised a large nave facing east as it should have and ended on this side with a flat apse. It was lit by three semi-circular bays, still visible to the south.
Around 1301, this chapel was enlarged by one bay, adopting the Gothic style and was equipped with two intermediate naves, visible inside. And above all, it is also given a role of defense and refuge: a powerful square tower is erected to the west.

Celui qui n'a pas visité cet endroit a réellement raté quelque chose de superbe...

Leider konnten wir bei unserem Besuch in Limbourg die Kirche nicht besichtigen. Jedoch lohnt sich ein Blick vom Friedhof auf die Rückseite, da so die Größe erst zum Vorschein kommt.

Accueil chaleureux, bons renseignements et bière remplacée rapidement alors qu'elle était passée de goût ! Endroit qui vaut un pti arrêt après une balade dans ce joli village 🤩
