It's an epic citadel that reminds you of a Lord of the Rings scene. It also has the best view of the city below. The fortification towers over the city and overlooks the river. The museum inside contains a nice tour showcasing how life was for a soldier. Impressively, it also contains a sub-officer school.
Do not miss out on the recreated WW1 trench and shelter. Kids will fall in love with this room.
I advise going in time as the museum closes early.

Beautiful view and quiet place to explore. It wasn't crowded at all with tourists, so taking photos is easy. You can buy cable cars and cruise together or separate. There are plenty of options to eat and sit next to harbor. Boating is also a good option.

A fantastic place, with an incredible view of the village of Dinant. Entrance is 12 euros per person, you can climb a 408-step staircase or take the cable car. A well-preserved historic place.

We visited in october so the impressive views over the city were even more amazing because of the autumnal colors. There was no line, we got the 3in1 tickets, the cable car ride is 1min long, the stairs looked scary so it's worth it. The museum is interesting with a lot of information. The collapsed shelter was an interesting experience but be careful 'cause it makes you sick!!! If you visit on a sunny day, the garden ia beautiful for a walk. Of course from up here you get the best view over Dinant and you get the most amazing pictures. Will definitely visit again when i will be back in Belgium.

Excellent , suburb, magnificent. It's everything I love. The waiters are the best and simply delicious coffee with sweets.
I hope to come back in the future for a meal.
Thank you, Citadel

It's a really beautiful place to see, the view from the top is amazing, you can walk there or get a cable car, what is strange you pay for entry and inside you have to pay to go to the toilet, should be free to be honest, anyway it's really good place to visit, lot's of history.

There was a line (buying tickets was the biggest bottle neck, but with tickets you would be in the same line), but everything was moving at a steady pace.

Some people ignored the line, under the assumption that the tickets are only for the cable car 🚡, bit this is not the case.

We walked upstairs, good exercise for the kids and ourselves. But we took the cable car down 😉

The view over the town is super nice, and there are enough tools of war (of various times) on display. Kids liked the old "pirate" 🦜 cannons and cannonballs the most.

The war simulation in the trenches of the indoor museum was a little too realistic for the kids. Better to skip this part with little kids.

The restaurant is nothing to write home about, but fine for a drink and a simple snack. A group of old people were sitting at a table singing old French songs.

Overall a nice visit if you are in the area 👍 Dinant is overall a cool (oldskool) tourist stop.

Two ways to reach the top citadel - 400 steps or a cable car. Taking the steps is worthit if you want to enjoy the journey with the views unfolding. They have a restaurant at the top as well.

Definitely worth a visit ! You could take the cable car ride to the castle. The fees is about 12 Euro per head. You could also enjoy the nice view while having lunch there😊

Citadelle of Dinant is the highest point of Dinant where you can easily see the whole city on the shore of Mouse river. You can either take stairs to the highest point or you can take cable car. The adult ticket is EUR 12 per person. There is almost no waiting time during the weekend. Lots of cafes and restaurants are nearby

Super cute spot! Lovely views of the river. Cathedral is nice. Walking area is nice. Good trails and a cable car if you don't want to take the stairs.

The Citadel is one of the must visit places when you go to Dinant! It sits imposingly at the top of the limestone rock formation behind the famous gothic-style Church of Lady Dinant.

We bought tickets on the spot and got in quick as there was barely a line. (Context: We visited on a Saturday afternoon during winter season) We rode a cable car up to the citadel. It was free and gave a good view of the town on the way up! Another option is to climb the stairs up the hill but be prepared to climb many, many steep stairs. Hahaha!

The citadel is also a museum which gives you a better understanding of the history of Dinant. The highlight of the museum experience was definitely the sloping room! (Reminder: Not recommended for those with balance problems.) Certain exhibits also provide an in-depth experience of how it was during the time when wars in Dinant broke out. You may choose to skip these exhibits if you have a tendency to be overstimulated.

Overall, Im glad we visited the citadel for our daytrip to Dinant!

Its beautiful. All the history of Dinant is collected in the citadel. The museums are interesting and takes quite some time to go through. One will get the entire view of the city from top of this place.
There is an option to climb 400 stairs or take a cable car which takes just 1 min to go up.

One of the best weekend getaways. Beautiful views from the citadel. It is also a chance to learn some history of saxophone and world war I.

Nice view of the town, not too expensive. Interesting exhibition, but the one after the trenches is a bit scary and not for dogs an small kids.

Worth a visit when you are in Dinant. Opportunity to reach by car, walk or even cable car. Takes about half a day and you can combine with walk on river side.

Impressive place, invested in and preserved, interesting explanations on WW1 and how Dinant was sieged. Amazing views from the top as well! 12 euros to take the cable car up and down, otherwise you can take 408 steps up!
