Brahmanbaria Municipality is a municipality under Brahmanbaria district of Bangladesh .

Brahmanbaria municipality has an area of ​​4,343 acres (17.58 sq km).

According to the 2011 census, the total population of Brahmanbaria municipality is 1,72,017. Out of this, 85,323 are male and 86,694 are female. Total families are 33,517. The population density is 9,785 persons per square kilometer.

Location and boundaries

Brahmanbaria Municipality is located in the middle of Brahmanbaria Sadar Upazila . Natai South Union and Natai North Union in the west of this municipality , Natai North Union and Suhilpur Union in the north , Suhilpur Union in the east, Machihata Union in the southeast , Ramrail Union in the south and Titas Nadi and Natghar Union of Nabinagar Upazila are located in the southwest.

On August 2, 1858, the British Parliament introduced the "Sushan Act" in the Indian subcontinent, ending the hundred-year rule of the East India Company, and when the state power of the subcontinent was entrusted to the British, the establishment of municipalities began in Bengal from 1860 AD to 1868 AD. At that time Brahmanbaria Municipality was established in 1968. It was managed by a 12-member board at the time of its establishment. Brahmanbaria municipality was named after Brahmanbaria municipality in 1972 after gaining independence through liberation war. From 1968 to May 6, 1973, the Sub-Divisional Administrators were ex-officio chairmen and many of the commissioners held duties as vice chairmen or acting chairmen. On May 6, 1973, late Mahbubul Huda and Vice Chairman Muslim Miah took over as the first elected Chairman. On May 14, 2008, the caretaker government created the post of mayor in the municipality instead of the chairman by an order, and the current mayor, Md. Helal Uddin, was the first elected mayor. He was elected as the chairman of this municipality in the 1999 election. At present 12 councilors in 12 wards and 4 elected women councilors in 4 reserved seats are serving the municipal council. Brahmanbaria Municipality started with five and a half square miles. Its population then was 19,915. At present, its area is 18 square kilometers and the population is about 1 lakh 85 thousand.
