I have a special attraction to the Bangabandhu and Muktijudda corners of any organisation. Because, just as you can get an idea about the taste and lifestyle of that family by looking at the books on the book shelf of someone's house, it is possible to understand to some extent the extent of the affection of the authorities of the institution towards Bangabandhu, Bangladesh, and the liberation war. And from that point of view, in Sonali Bank's 'Mujib Corner', it seems that the bank authorities, especially the bank's MD and CEO, Md. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and the founder of the bank, Ataur Rahman Pradhan Sir, have the highest respect.

Mr. Md. Ataur Rahman Pradhan Sir is a dynamic banker who is also humane and has a lively personality. I had the opportunity to spend a long time at Mujib Karnar today, subject to his permission. Undoubtedly, this was the most beautiful Mujib corner in Bangladesh.

Sonali Bank was established in 1972 under the Bangladesh Banks (Nationalisation) Order, through the amalgamation and nationalisation of the branches of National Bank of Pakistan. Sonali Bank has a total of 1215 branches. Out of them, 467 are located in urban areas, 746 in rural areas, and 2 are located overseas.

Sonali Bank was established in 1972 under the Bangladesh Banks (Nationalisation) Order, through the amalgamation and nationalisation of the branches of National Bank of Pakistan, Bank of Bahawalpur, and Premier Bank branches located in East Pakistan until the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.[11] When it was established, Sonali Bank had a paid up capital of 30 million taka.

From 1996 to 1999, Dr Atiur Rahman served as a director of Sonali Bank.[12]

In 2001, its authorised and paid up capital were Tk 10 billion and Tk 3.272 billion respectively. Presently, its authorised and paid up capital is Tk 10 billion and Tk 9 billion respectively[citation needed]. The bank's reserve funds were Tk 60 million in 1979 and Tk 2.050 billion on 30 June 2000.
