BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) was set up in March 2012 under the Private Universities Act of 2010 and is dedicated to the development of human resources for the readymade garment, textile and allied sectors of Bangladesh. The university aims to establish itself as a ‘center of excellence’ for study, research and development and to serve the nation.
It has three faculties: Textile, Apparel and Fashion. The environment is very good for study. Security is also remarkable.

After Bangladesh's independence in 1971, the nation faced the monumental task of rebuilding amidst limited resources and a surge in unskilled labor. Recognizing human resource development as pivotal, efforts focused on exploring opportunities in key sectors like agriculture, tourism, IT, and RMG. RMG, constituting 82% of export earnings, emerged as the largest foreign exchange earner and employer, driving demand for skilled professionals. In response, the Government and BGMEA envisioned BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) as a center of excellence, officially established in 2011. With a commitment to rigorous academia and gender equality, BUFT obtained official recognition in 2012, laying the foundation for academic inclusivity and strategic alliances with international partners. Committed to excellence, BUFT continues to set high academic standards in apparel, textile, fashion, and business education, fostering a new generation of innovative thinkers.
