Šišman Ibrahim Pasha Mosque

During the 1992-96 war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the entire historic urban site of Počitelj and all its various buildings suffered extensive war damage.

Under a permanent protection programme initiated by the Government in 2000, substantive efforts have been taken to protect the cultural heritage of the town from further deterioration and evidence of painstaking reconstruction of damaged and destroyed buildings to their original state is obvious, such as this mosque.

According to its chronogram, it was built in 970 AH (1562-63 AD) by Hadži Alija. The mosque was blown up in 1993; the dome and minaret completely destroyed, and the rest of the building was badly damaged. There are photos of the mosque without its roof/dome inside the prayer area.

It is amazing to see how it now stands magnificently tall and proud, a testament to the resilience of faith and the power of human determination.

This is a city with origins in 14/15th century, suffered a major damage during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina 1992-1996 but being rebuilt. Origins are from before Otomans ruling, with aditions arriving with the new masters.

Most part of Pocitelj has been restored but some towers and houses still need renovation. Lot of greenery, but you have to walk up the hill a lot to explore it entirely. cafes and restaurants are mainly in lower part, by the road. You will find souvenir shops and for climbing up you will be rewarded with beautiful vistas on Herzegovina and Neretva river.

This is something special and worth visiting. Had fun!

Biz çok güzel bir havada doya doya gezdik bu tarihi Osmanlı Köyünü.

Osmanlı döneminden kalan camii, Neretva Nehri kıyısındaki Pocitelj köyünde yer almaktadır. Mostar'dan Hırvatistan sınırına doğru gidenlerin mutlaka uğraması gereken tarihi bir yerleşim yeridir. Taş sokaklardan Pocitelj Kalesi'ne kadar tırmanıp, eşsiz manzarayı izlemeniz de tavsiye edilir.
