This is a beatiful stone bridge built around 16. Century by Ottoman Empire. Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria is also assasinated near this bridge which started First World War.

Very close to the old town, there is a monument on the corner where the assasination took place. I recommend taking a walking tour of the area, it is very revealing. Also on that corner you will see a model car that resembles the one involved in the event at the beginning of WWI.
Right across the bridge there is a park with a music pavillion where you can find free wifi.

Rich in history from WW-1 initiation and very well maintained. Surrounding areas are bustling with nice eateries and vibrant people. Great for an evening experience.

The fatefull place where Archduke Franz Ferdinand was asassinated, trigering the first world war, and the colapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire😢
Now we are all living in our miserable, corupt, incapable and lazy but "independent" countrys....

A ledger from 1541 makes the first mention of a bridge located on the spot where the Latin Bridge is found today, stating that it was built by one sarač (leather worker) named Husein, the son of Širmed.

One can conclude from a later document that this initial wooden bridge was soon destroyed and a stone bridge was built in its place by Ali Ajni Bey, a prominent Sarajevan.

This stone bridge was later washed away by a great flood in 1791, but in 1798 a wealthy trader from Sarajevo, Abdulah Briga, donated funds for the construction of the Latin Bridge that can be seen today.

The bridge took its name from the neighborhood on the left bank of the Miljacka, where Sarajevo’s Catholics resided.

From 1918 to 1993 the structure bore the name, Principov Most (bridge), after Gavrilo Princip, who was only a few meters from this bridge when he assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sofie. This incident, known as the Sarajevo Assassination, led to the beginning of the First World War.

Do not miss this bridge. Near this bridge (not on it as some erroneously assume by association), the Archduke of Austria-Hungary was assassinated. This event was the trigger for World War I.

It really is a privilege to stand in this location. Not because of the heinous act committed here, but because of the realisation of how much changed in the world because of what happened here. This is standing in the place where history shifted, where the world turned. It's a spectacular area. Beautiful buildings. A glorious sense of history. But there is a strong dark undercurrent.
I'm a historian. I never indulge in "what might have been" but we do recognise what was. And why.
All because of a wrong turn ...

Great Historical place, a must to visite. Its next to the Museum and the Park At Mejdan. There is a tram station a taxi station an a troley station. In summer you have caffe garden where you can have a drink and enjoy a beautiful view on the river and the Latin Bridge where the park trees gives you a perfect shadow from the hot sun. In spring and autumn the place speaks its own language. The Latin bridge is the enter to the Old Bascarsija,

An architecturally nice bridge but it's infamy is from an century ago when WW1 begun after the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. It's fascinating to think of how 1 event in this exact spot changed history forever.

The place where it all started, WW1. The bridge is a very sentimental part of history. Close to the Museum and easy to locate
