Kastel Fortress

Loved this place. We were almost alone during the workday, wandering the grounds on a hot summer day. The entry to Kastel is free, the place is big and the history is present in the real way.

Nicely reconstructed but lot more to do.
One of the places u must visit in the city of Banja Luka.
You can have a nice family tour on and inside the walls.

I heard that this is like the main attraction of Banja Luka, so I just wandered in because why not. There were nice info plates and a map. You can get a really nice view of the city from up there and there was hardly anyone else there.

I was there for a concert only but enjoyed the venue immensely. Nice view of the old town and the Ferhadija mosque too.

Great for picnics, and tidy grass areas; the picture represents the foundation of the church from the Roman period.

Marvelous castle located at the bank of the River Vrbas. Reminder of how history is speaking with us but nowadays we are too busy to listen...

One of the rare fortresses in valleys. Usually , Bosnia and Herzegovina fortresses were built on high hills or peaks. Across the Kastel is the Safikada grave which life and death is connected to Kastel.

Great ancient place. Government should maintain it and make the Wall walkable.

In my opinion the most beautiful place in Banja Luka and maybe only one which you should see when visit Banja Luka or just you have few hours in this city. You can chill there with nature and very nice view on the river. There is also Cafe and restaurant so you can eat and drink something there. For sure worth to see.

What a great experience! Absolutely impeccable service and a unique ambiance in an originally roman fortress with outside seating overlooking the river. An assortment of excellent barbequed meats accompanied with a variety of Bosnian red wines...

Good place for a walk. They are still renovating some parts, but everywhere is green, clean and it has nice views.

The fortress is a very nice place to visit, with the view on Vrbas river. Inside the fortress there is also a very good restaurant "Kazamat". The decor is all medieval and the food is amazing! The staff is also very nice :) Recommend it!

Great place for concerts and simmilar social events. Also very nice place for children during the day becouse of the very large and cool playground. One other acctivity you can do is walk the walls which is also wery cool. There is very popular restaurant in the fortress too. Soon there will be a museum too.

We were there in winter time. Not many visitors. The castle looked deserted, was not yet renovated. Be walked through the main building. The view behind it, by the Vrbas river was stunning.

Ferhad pasha Sokolović(1574-1588) firstly built his fortified tophane (arsenal) on the place of current Kastel, in order to, in some ten years later, turn the tophane into real fortified city with towers and tabiyas, which was constantly additionally built.

If you plan visiting Banja Luka, make sure to walk through this building! No regrets!🤩
