A local favourite for queer art and literature.

I have fond memories coming here and exploring their diverse collections of books and graphic novels. Everything from poems to erotic arts of gay men and their adventures.

Highly recommended place, has its unique vibe and gorgeous attention to detail. Enjoy yourself with a mug of coffee or a drink at the bar.

Great gay book shop in Pride Centre...pity it is hidden from street view.

Such a special place. More than a bookstore, a community heart.

Lovely bookshop with a great range of queer literature. There really is anything you could want, ranging from cute graphic novels to contemporary literature to queer politics and philosophy.

This bookshop has always played a vitally important role in Melbourne's LGBTIQA+ scene, and I'm glad to see in continuing in its new venue. I do miss the old and careworn (but friendly) venue in Fitzroy (which was also closer to where I live), and the current space seems like a bit of an afterthought. You couldn't squeeze too many people into it! They've yet to shelve all the books. That being said, the people know their stock very well, and can advise you on books with a calm and complete knowledge. I do hope that it finds a final home in a proper space in The Pride Centre; really it should be one of the Centre's drawcards, and have an appropriately large and lounge-y space - with couches, comfy chairs, and plenty of space for browsing. But whether that happens or not, it's still a great bookshop, and run by some of the most expert people in the business.

Really cool place! I haven't been here in the daytime: this was used as a venue for a Fed Uni HE Performing Arts Cabaret that I went to a few months back.

In terms of a performance venue, it's really nice... If you're right up the front. Otherwise, the single-level seating arrangement means that the further away you are, the less you'll be able to see the show and the more you'll see of the back of people's heads.

Having said that, I'd be really curious to go back in the daytime and check out the books that they have! Really cool variety on some pretty niche topics! Could spend hours just reading the blurbs and drinking some tea (which they provide there too) 😆

I am a regular visitor here. They host a variety of good shows, have lovely staff, and rather nice drinks. Both the entrance and one of the bathrooms are wheelchair accessible.

There also very comfortable couches and an excellent selection of books and dvds.

A wonderful treasure trove of beautiful books and even more beautiful people. Absolutely love any opportunity to check out Hares and Hyenas, whether to shop for a little something or attend one of the many nightly events that are always so colourful, entertaining and enlightening. Melbourne is so lucky to have a store like this and run by two of the friendliest (and hardest working) guys ever!

Great vibe. Every dish had an amazing new ingredient to try. Friendly staff and fantastic atmosphere. I'm so glad I took my friend's suggestion and went along. We ordered 3 dishes that complimented each other perfectly (I'm sure the menu is designed that way). Every dish prepared with care and a perfect blend of amazing yet uniquely different flavours. You certainly don't need to be vegan to totally love the food here. An incredible chef with an inventive palate of ideas.

An amazing queer bookstore where you can obtain plenty of queer media to add to your collection.

They host many small handicraft sellers every so often on Sunday where you can find little amazing queer gifts to surprise your friends.

They also host some shows and have a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

A must visit to a small queer bookstore where you might find something that will surprisr you.

Bookstore by day, queer bookshop by day. I went to Hares and Hyenas for poetry event; Rapid Fire. Probably one of the finest readings I've been to in a while. Pop in for a coffee. Peruse the extensive selection of queer literature. You'll be welcome either way. Bravo
