Coles Gawler Green

Great place to pop into after a great lunch nearby. They have a great selection of everything. Great specials to pickup. Friendly staff. My mum loves browsing the specials section she always finds a few things to give for christmas presents. An all round great store.

Great store, the deli has a great selection of italian meats, such as my personal favourite, gabagool. The fresh produce is great, send my regards to the workers.

An excellent store. Clean, orderly; the staff know the contents of each aisle and are happy to help you find your desired product. The fruit and veg were fresh and looked amazing.

Coles Gawler Green have a pleasant grocery store ambience that encourage you to spend hours in the store, on this note kudus to your sale and marketing department for having excellent products layout from local produce and international; helpful staff with excellent customer service skills and above all Redcycle bin is provided near the cashier counter for soft plastic recycling campaign.

Broben Daegen Farber once laboured here when it was actually a village market on the green. We remember him on this day.
Most will recall a winter morning in 1918 when Lord Coles's silhouette emerged from the northern fog illuminated by a pale cold sun at the head of a large host.
That day he would take the village green and construct his super market.
Few amongst many were brave enough to make a hopeless stand against Lord Coles. The Valiant Companionship we now call those who died defending the green. At the time however, they were simply desperate and unlikely comrades who's only commonality was the spirit of resistance in the face of adversity and tyranny.
Of these doughty men and women today we remember Broben Daegen Farber. No one ever wanted him there. He would come and sweep the grass and steal whatever he could. A low tier nuisance for the most part. Yet on that chilly day at the village green Broben would find his courage and purpose. Special boy Broben day. When at last came Lord Coles's army, and once it had assembled on the rise awaiting the clarion to charge, then forward stood bold Daegen Faber. The first to stand for Gawler. The first to die for Gawler.
The words special boy Broben spoke that day will be remembered and taught in schools for as long as civilization endures. "Go on get gone in ya dirty trousers then boys."
It was upon speaking these words that Daegen Faber would charge straight into the enemy lines. Quickly cut down by a hail of bullets.
It's here that I think it poignant to quote the poem little Lottie Pottinghutch wrote that day.

Morning fog on the dewy green
Men without god came to ruin the scene
A wanton machine that consumed our dreams
They built on-top a new market supreme

Mother wept the day Lord Coles came
And swept our little village green away
For dad there stood amidst the fray
Against the men who sent dismay

Daddy died where the cars will park
Nan nan will cry when we walk past
But alas we will go to the nicer Coles
Coz the other ones old and smells like mould

Is it worth the deaths for progress made?
Yes. Ease of access on shopping days
I little Lottie weep now not
As I fill my shopping trolley cart or basket up to the top

This 100 year old poem really does capture the sentiment of that fateful morning. Especially from the perspective of childhood innocence. Fascinating and moving.
It cannot be overstated how important it is to learn and remember the history of our own backyard. You will often find it is more colourful than whats in the magazines and in the computers. I hope this small snippet of Gawler history has tittilated your historical urges. Mayhaps even stimulated you to seek more township histories.

Quality Butcher, newsagent, Chookn shop, candle and diffusers shop, liquor and nice cafe serving quality food. However the lady in the Deli section at Coles should be given a lesson in basic customer service. Middle aged and should be setting an example but today she asked what I wanted and proceeded to get it. Then started a 2 minute conversation with 2 other staff members about the starting time of another and what time to put the chickens on. Then underarmed my beef slices to the top of the counter and turned to finish her conversation. No thankyou, no can I get you something else. Just plain and simply.....RUDE! It doesn't even qualify for poor customer service because it's the very worst type of service possible. If I were your employer you would be moved on!

Coles is one of my favourite supermarkets, this one doesn't disappoint - great range, large store and plenty of friendly staff on hand to help if needed.

Coles has an amazing community, outstanding food and service. Absolutely the best grocery store I have ever visited.

For a small shopping centre it not to bad & having coles just makes it 👍👍

Store is well kept, very clean and superbly organised. Unfortunately a high theft store and I constantly see people stealing, I wish Coles would do something with the security around there to help me feel more at ease. Other than that, it's a pleasure to shop at Coles Gawler Green and the staff are great 😄

Always a good experience shopping here. The only criticism I would have is it needs to open at 6 like the other Coles in Gawler not 7. Opening at 7 means people on the way to work early in the morning will go somewhere else like I had to the other day.

Great staff, but the male that was unpacking the tomatoes needs to not drop them down.

We have traveled Australia for 11 years and have been to many Coles stores
The friendly helpful staff at Coles Gawler Green have stepped up to the mark 100% in staff, presentation, Goods stocked, willingness to help, and above all friendliness at all times, even the casuals, packers and trolley people.
I am amazed that they are always so friendly, helpful and NOTHING is too much trouble for them.
I now will NOT go to any other store, unless absolutely necessary, although there is a closer store to my home
