Eastern Bell

We revisited the Eastern Bell Chinese restaurant in Balwyn last Saturday evening, pleased to know that the food there still very good, we ordered sesame prawn toast , prawn cutlets, spring rolls as entrees and West Lake Beef Soup and Hot & Sour Soup.
For mains, we had the Salt and Pepper Prawns which were crispy outside, fresh and succulent inside with full of flavour. Another dish was the Gong Baw Pork , the meat was tender and the dark sauce was really tasty with the steamed rice. All food servings were in decent portions, we ordered a pot of Chinese tea really went well with the meals. Although the restaurant was busy, the service was still attentive. Later, Nicholas, the manager came over and we had a pleasant chat.
We will definitely come back again with some friends and a bottle of wine to savor more of their delicious food.
Note:- entry is via steep stairway from the front door, but later we found out that customers with mobility issues can come in from the back door via back lane from Kalonga road, and it’s only one step to that level.
Next time we can drop our friends at the back of the restaurant first , then park the car at the main street or side street as not many car spaces at rear of the building.

Service second to none. Food was excellent as usual. Easy to see why this place has been here so many years. What a wonderful lunch.

Absolutely love this place! Amazing service, the food tastes so good, NO MSG and the staff are so friendly and so professional. Their service made it feel like I was in a 5 star restaurant in the city or Crown or something.

The food was full of flavour and fresh. The ambience of the place was really nice. Can’t wait to go back here again cause your time is so enjoyable and the place is filled with history! 10/10

Food high standard, lovely atmosphere, fresh fish from tank. Unusual beautiful views, looking over the Dandenong. Owner Nicohlas has turned this restaurant into a gem. If mobility issues, take the back street entrance.

My new favorite place to go. Food is good and price is fairly reasonable. But the service is amazing.

Had dinner with the family. The service was excellent very attentive and every dish was flavourful and authentic, service was efficient. Prices were reasonable. Ambience was nice.

I dined at Eastern Bell tonight with my family and we were blown away by the quality of both the food and the service! Every dish we ordered was delicious and felt special in its own way (we really loved the Gwo Tye specialty dumplings and the Peking duck in particular). It was obvious that everything was completely home made and had been freshly prepared. The staff were fantastic too, so friendly and very attentive - they went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience at the restaurant. Thank you so much for the wonderful night!

Great atmosphere 😃 love the food there. I ordered a fresh lobster, it was prepared well and let me with a tummy full of food. They have fresh seafood daily and the way they prepare the dishes.. a true Oriental experience. The staff are also very friendly here attending to every need. Highly recommended.

Greetings, my name is Karen Belmore. I love this place. The Eastern Bell is an amazing establishment with the best customer service. You truly do not get customer service like this anymore they are so accomodating and kind. They even offered me a knife and fork instead of using chopsticks (I’m very white). Little Mitchell enjoyed his meal and I couldn’t help but notice the similarities in my name and the establishments. I won’t spoil the whole story but us ‘belmore’ folk stick together haha. Anyways I need to go now the light just turned green cya

A new owner and manager - same person, and it shows! This restaurant must have changed dramatically as I have nothing but positive comments to make. Personalised and very friendly service and the food was EXCELLENT! The salmon and beef dishes in particular were so tasty and tender - obviously the chef is sourcing top quality meat from an excellent source. It's also a delightful setting. Doesn't it make a difference when you feel genuinely cared for AND be offered beautiful quality food - that's why we like eating out but it's not always what we experience. I highly recommend Eastern Bell and I'll be telling my friends to go there.

Have eaten at the Eastern Bell on and off for the last 25 years and it has never let me down - I understand that Nicholas was out of the business for the last 7 years but I did not go there during that period. Went last week and the cuisine has notched up another level - the range of dishes is extensive and the execution is of the best quality. But, for me, the reason I go back after all this time is that the experience is all about the people. Definitely my favourite Chinese Restaurant - without exception. Thank you for allowing me to re-experience my previous culinary highs.

This is a wonderful local. Delicious food, MSG free. Lovely restaurant to eat in & they take phone orders for take-away. Generous servings, polite helpful staff & reasonable prices. Off road parking in the street downstairs. Definitely worth trying if you haven't already, certainly one of my favourites.

Everything was perfect! Eastern Bell is a family favourite but since we moved to the country we haven't been for a long time. Nicholas and the team put on a fantastic banquet for m husband's surprise 60th birthday celebration. I highly recommend Eastern Bell, the food and service is excellent.

We come here relatively frequently (family choice). It's a good friendly Chinese restaurant, recently undergone a bit of a face lift, but still with classic charm (like the live seafood in the tanks). We always order honey-pepper steak and lemon chicken. Saturdays can be busy so recommend a booking.

I was taken by the excellent service provided by the Eastern Bell staff. We came to celebrate a birthday, it was an excellent restaurant for this, the staff were so very attentive and polite, the place had a lovely warm/inviting atmosphere oh and of course the food was lovely too! Highly recommended, I will certainly be coming back.

A birthday celebration and wonderful experience, great service and good food, light and fragrant and the seadood fresh. The orchids on the plates were a nice touch giving thought to presentation - we were treated like we mattered, thank you Nicholas and team.

We had a big family gathering and bought heaps from Eastern Bell. Entrees and mains across the board were perfect and satisfied the masses. Well done guys. Back again soon.
