Harold E. Holt Communication Station VLF Towers

We were surprised to find out that the main tower (387m) is actually taller (only just) than the Empire State Building. Supposedly they repaint one tower per year. This area once operated with American dollars! (so we were told).

One of the most bizarre installations on Earth, looks like a space station. Despite the HAARP controversies, it is used for communication with submarines in Indian and Pacific ocean, using the very low frequency (VLF) waves and very strong transmission power (1 MW, highest in southern hemisphere). Truly a special place.

I drove past this site as a child on a school camp, there was huge towers, the bus driver said there was an underground nuclear submarine base nearby, the signs all along the fence said it was illegal to take photos, I took one anyway but the photo mysteriously disappeared. Sometimes weather radar maps show huge lines crossing the sky and they allways point to here, It's offically designed as a superweapon that creates earthquakes and superstorms and also uses mind control but I think it was built with more sinister intentions, possibly to use ultra low frequency radio waves travelling through the ionosphere for uninterceptable communication between the US and australia, if you are going to build a mind control earthquake gun just build it on the moon, anyway It looked actually quite beautiful and I was impressed by the scale of the project. I'm going to have to finish this review later bc the coffee and accomadation was pretty good but I can't go into it now as theres 5 black vans that have just pulled up and some men in suits are running towards my front door in a bit of a hurry so I better put the kettle on I think they might want to talk to me, probably about jesus smh

Best duty station in my 28 years in the Navy. Left part of my heart in Aussie. Wonderful country with great people! Enjoyed everything except those bush flies. Aussie Aussie Aussie! Go Eagles!
