Bit hard to find, but what a great restaurant. Big enough without being too big, beautiful decor, excellent friendly and professional service, and wonderful food. As a group of 5 ladies, we did consider the set menu for $70 each, but decided against it and chose our own dishes to share. Everything was delicious, especially the lamb ribs, just wow! The only disappointment was the dessert, the condensed milk creme caramel, which I thought lacked flavour. With a shared bottle of sparkling wine and a beer each, it was great value for money at $67 each

Unbelievable food at an incredible price hidden away in a small alleyway. The softshell crab buns and all the ribs are a must order! The cocktails were also wonderful.

The staff are also very caring and knowledgeable about the food, although it can sometimes be hard to get their attention.

Overall a great place to go for a casual dinner!

Went here for lunch. Had a great time. Staffs helpful, service quick. Ambiance was good, music not too loud , tables with good spacing in between, decor clean and simple. I like that the waiting area is separate as sometimes people waiting can make a place look so disorganized and chaotic.
We had the Nasi Goreng and mixed crackers with peanut sauce. Servings were generous and well seasoned. Reasonably priced too.
This isn’t my first time here and it is always a good experience. A bit tricky to find, it’s inside the building ground floor, right side towards the end of the ground floor if entering from Collins st.

The restaurant is hard to find. Google took us down Collins Street and we couldn’t find the entrance there. I recommend navigating to Critical Hit (game shop) as the alley to Makan is right next to the game shop.

The food is very good. Each dish was quite unique and great for sharing. The service is also very attentive. It’s hard to pick a favourite dish since everything we tried was very good.

One of the best things about the food was the uniqueness of each flavour profile. Each dish had its own unique flavour and texture, rather than just being spicy or sweet.

Very aesthetic decor but the location was a bit difficult to find as its in an alleyway.

The beef brisket rendang paired with the jasmine rice was an absolute hit!

Staff were friendly & attentive.

The restaurant was good, but I had trouble finding it because the Google Maps address was unclear. Despite the hassle, the food was delicious and well-deserved. The Kingfish and prawn sauce are perfect!

We had the Chef’s tasting menu and were impressed by the selection, size and quality of the offerings. Standout was the lamb ribs! Will definitely go back.

Good food and service. It is a bit hard to locate the place on google Maps, but you can find it just next to 'oriental tea house'
It is a fine dine restaurant, so prices are a bit high. Every dish we ordered was delicious and presented nicely, so didn't mind paying so much. Overall, I will recommend this place.

First of all the address is misleading. Just go to the ground floor of Collins 360 building instead. It will be behind lifts. The food is amazing, melting on your tongue, the selection of sambals is quite tasty too. The stuff is very attentive, serve well with etiquette and good manners. Music is slightly louder than would be desired but not too much. Highly recommend this place for medium to higher meetings or family gatherings. Of course the prices are higher than desired but well, it is a great place.

Work lunch. The dishes were so tasty. Very fresh. Highlight for me was satay chicken skewers and crispy duck. There is no mistake they are using fresh ingredients served with care and attention. I will come back to try other dishes

Delicious, beautifully balanced and presented Indonesian food with a great range of options for vegetarians as well.

I have been here on 2 occasions and the quality has been superb each time.

They staff are fantastic at wine pairings and they have some fun and you cocktails as well.

The desserts are also divine and left me wanting more. Particularly the black sticky rice! Sweet, creamy and a hint of salt to round it out.

The Tasting menu (Makan time) for 65 including dessert definitely fills you up and is a good option to try lots of dishes - they are very accommodating for dietary restrictions if your group has any.

This place is great! Really good Indonesian fusion food. I find that the food tastes quite authentic and the fusion-ness comes through the presentation and some extra ingredients. I would definitely recommend the chef’s selection menu. Great stuff. Plus, the ambiance and vibe of the place is mellow and chill.

REVIEW:
I've been going to Makan for years. Their lunch menu is one of the best in the city, and it feels like a hidden gem with the location being in a sequestered spot. It's accessible via a laneway or through 360 Collins street building. 📸

✔ The Mie Goreng Komplit noodle is stir fried perfectly, amalgamating together with the cabbage and other vegetables. 🍝
➖ The chicken satay peanut is new - and I prefer having that separately because I find the peanut sauce isn't the BEST complement to the savoury umami noodles.
✔ The fried egg adds a creaminess to the dish, while the the pickled carrot and cucumbers provides a little sharp sourness which is great to cut through the savouriness of it all.
✔ The colourful garlic crackers are fun to munch on as well!
The portion size is fantastic, and I always leave feeling full.

My friend ordered the Nasi campur bali and it looked delicious. I think I'll be straying from my main love (Mie Goreng) and trying that next time!  👀

Service is efficient, and you can order either with the staff or through the QR code. Atmosphere is great for casual catch ups, while being bright and nice enough to feel like you're away from your monotonous office.
So sad that Makan isn't open for lunch during the weekends! Otherwise, you'd find me having lunch there on the regular. ❤‍🔥

Makan is surprisingly good and it’s more than what I expected! Staff were incredibly friendly and professional, they really took care of my table. Top-tier service!

Food were awesome and had distinct / unique taste that you can’t really find in common Indonesian restaurants here. My favourite were the soft shell crab bun and ox tongue skewers from the bites menu, fried duck from the main menu, and the nastar/pineapple cake from the dessert menu. For drinks, I’d recommend the cendol cocktail! Very refreshing.

Makan is defs worth to try! I will come back! :)

The food was fantastic, the highlights were Urutan and the Nasi Goreng Bebek among other things. Just got the one dessert, Pisang Bakar which was a bit of a miss tho. All the components were great individually but the cheddar crisps didn't quite complement the choc ice cream.

Be transported to Bali, without even leaving Melbourne😉 the menu is built to share with punchy flavours, sophisticated plating, and traditional delights.

Honestly, it’s one of my favourite spot this year.🌟
