Visited this place with a friend on Saturday night for dinner. The place was not busy, clean and well maintained. We ordered 4 dishes, and they were all delicious and portions were generous. The free side dishes were also a highlight of our visit. Overall we were very satisfied with our meals and the price we paid. Will visit again in the future.

Incredibly authentic Korean food served in big portions. So many banchan (side dishes) served, more than any Korean restaurant I’ve been to. All of the dishes were good however the standouts were: ddeok galbi (rice cake wrapped in beef ribs), fried chicken, doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and jokbal (braised pork hock). If you like tofu you must order it as well. Delicious and great service!!

Really homey atmosphere and delicious Korean food. The chef came out and explained to us how to eat the pork belly and was very passionate about the food! Will definitely be back. I especially enjoyed the big selection of banchan (side dishes)

My fav Korean restaurant so far!

It was quite a busy Friday night but we were well served, we asked for dish recommendation and the staff was knowledge and explained well.

Small Army Stew Pot with sausage slices, noodles, pork meat, beans, ham & rice cake in rich thick hot soup 😋

Half Kimchi & Half Seafood Pancake 🤗 get to try both!! Kimchi pancake wasn’t too sour and the spring onion seafood was yummy too😋

Of course I was hooked by the banchan again❤

Tips, please call for reservation 😉

Good taste and good price and 13 kinds of side dish!
We recommend strongly this place and will come again very soon.
One thing, I like it, but I wish the broth were a bit richer.

We have been coming here for 5 years or so. Suga is an authentic, reliable Korean restaurant which is well known to locals but (thankfully) is an undiscovered gem, which means there is usually seating for walk-in customers. Over the years, the staff have turned over several times, but the food is the same and the service has always been friendly and exemplary.

What they do well: any of their stews, any of their tofu dishes, any of their fried chicken. The dumplings are great. They make their own tofu on site, so it is super fresh and tasty. I especially recommend the spicy tofu stew. The tofu in it is to die for. The purple rice they serve is perfect, I can't think of anywhere else in Melbourne that has a nicer rice texture than Suga.

What I am not so sure about: they are unapologetically authentic, which means you will find some Korean dishes that may not suit your palate. I was told by a Korean friend that Korean food is actually like this. So be careful if you order the Soondae (Korean blood sausage). I found the jelly-like texture and metallic flavour off-putting, but it's meant to be this way?

In our dozens of visits over the years, they have been consistent. There was only one hiccup many years ago (a slightly undercooked pancake) which they quickly rectified. Otherwise, to be able to do this night after night for years and be so consistent is amazing.

In short, this restaurant is authentic and excellent. There is nothing actually bad about the place, only dishes you have to be careful about ordering in case it's too Korean for you.

We've been going to this place frequently for many years now. The food is authentic and very good. The variety and spread is more extensive than most Korean restaurants that we've been. The owner and staff are extremely friendly and their service is excellent.

A hidden gem close to Jordanville train station, Suga is a korean restaurant with real traditional Korean flavours. Cozy place and very friendly staff. Dishes come quick and are delicious. The traditional Korean side dishes are very abundant and the variety is the best I've ever seen, wow.
I highly recommend their Korean Style flavoured fried chicken. Is one of the best in Melbourne. Everything was super tasty.

I recently stumbled upon some reviews that criticized an incident at Suga Restaurant, alleging the staff were rude. I'm not usually a review writer but couldn't help to stop and write a review for them too. Having been present during the incident in question, I felt compelled to share my own experience and feeling that the staff handled it well.

As a long-time local loyal customer of Suga, I have frequented their establishment for years. Throughout my visits, I have consistently received exceptional service from the staff. They always make me feel welcome, regardless of how busy they are, and I have observed them handling difficult situations with grace.

It's unjust to unfairly assess reputable businesses where everyone is sincerely doing their best. While they may not achieve perfection every time and satisfaction from everyone, who does? But it's inappropriate to categorise them as aggressive when I can personally attest to their welcoming and inclusive approach towards all customers.

Wishing Suga Restaurant the best! You do a fantastic job!

Really good food! Very authentic! My sister and I tried this place out and ordered an army stew and also a soup with hand cut noodle with Mandu dumplings. Both were so flavourful and very tasty! Ordered much more than we could finish tho. Might be good to stick to one dish next time (esp if bigger portion like army stew). Met the owner lady (forgot her name) who was very friendly and spent time talking with us when we complemented the food. Definitely authentic and such a good find for the suburbs! The photos were taken after we had already started to dig into the food, so not the best look, but it did look good when it was served!

Really cozy and family style Korean restaurant! Very relaxing ambience which is different from your typical loud and busy Korean restaurant vibe.

The banchan (side dishes) are amazing and soups are really warming and tasty.

Will come again!

I’m a Korean who’s been to a lot of Korean restaurants in Melbourne, and I’d have to nominate Suga for the top of my list! Their jokbal is remarkable, it’s better than in any restaurant in Korea. I also recommend the kimchi stew, which I also think beat what you’d find in restaurants back in Korea kkk. Also, they give me six yummy side dishes, whereas most other places only give only one to three side dishes.
