Shinbashi Yakiniku

Relaxed Japanese barbecue restaurant in Lygon Street, Carlton. They have low tables where you need to remove your shoes to sit. The barbecue is sunken into the tables and is over hot coals which can be replaced by staff if they cool down. We ordered a set menu which started with some sashimi, edamame, lotus chips, takoyaki and salads. This was followed by several platters of seafood and meat which we cooked ourselves over the coals. The platters included ox tongue, sirloin and wagyu as well as scallops and prawns. The meat was good quality and tasty. Staff were helpful and friendly.

The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly and attentive! I'd definitely come back here. It gave me a true flashback of when I used to live in Japan. I'll be sure to recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a good Tabehōdai!

Lovely Japanese bbq restaurant with great ambience and atmosphere. Staff were attentive but not overbearing. Food was great and the wagyu selection plate was a good way to try different cuts. We will definitely be back

First visit to this place was such a pleasant experience! 10/10 for a date night if you’re thinking of eating out and breaking from the home cooked food routine. The sashimi was so fresh with every bite melting in your mouth. My ultimate favourite was the premium wagyu dice. Just fantastic!

All of the meats were really good quality and marinated well with salt and pepper. We also tried their fried oysters [$11.9] - succulent and creamy on the inside, wrapped in a crispy golden batter 🤤

I've been twice and would recommend coming here for group dinners as the wagyu sets are great value!

Absolutely delicious! Quality meat and the dipping sauces were just divine, couldn't get enough of the orange-colored one. The edamame in particular was heavenly; normally only sprinkled with salt, here they coat them with black pepper and sesame oil too! The purple sweet potato cheese was rather dry though, so maybe not get that one.

Edit: came back to try the all you can eat and can definitely say that regular dining is so much better. AYCE has lower quality meat cuts and smaller portions, with each serve being less than a handful. We ended up ordering 25 servings of meat for 3 people, and even then we weren't quite satisfied but simply stopped because of how tedious it was to order repeatedly. I don't think AYCE will offer you more value than if you were to dine on a regular day considering the quality difference.

Loved the atmosphere! There’s two options while din in which is on the table with chair and the other one you had to take off your shoes. Price is $$$. The premium wagyu was 10/10 for as it melt on your mouth. Just pre book before hand so you wont get disappointed if there’s no table during your arrival.

Enjoyed a delicious yakiniku dinner. We ordered the beef trio & pork trio along with the Ultimate Wagyu Box which includes 8 premium cuts of Australian Wagyu MB7+. Their tiger prawns and sashimi grade scallops tasted so good after grilling. Perfect night out at Shinbashi !

Great range of drinks, seafood and meats, at decent prices. Friendly service and pleasant atmosphere with good lighting and music not too loud to chat with friends. Check them out for yourself. You won't be disappointed.

I have been to many all you can eat places, this is THE BEST service I have ever experienced. Orders come very quickly with beautiful portions.

Once you grab the menu, one of their lovely staffs will come right away without you even looking at them.Will definitely come back.

Came for a family dinner and the service was excellent as was the food. The place was not smoky at all, the whole family enjoyed BBQing their own meats and vegetables. We will definitely go back.

Had the best Japanese bbq experience here for dinner. The restaurant is spacious and clean with a nice touch of sophistication.
I tried their range of wagyu cuts and it was incredible. You know you're going to get premium wagyu by it's marbling and Shinbashi delivers on the goods. What I also really love about this place is that it's 100% charcoal bbq giving a delicious smokey flavour. The sashimi is here is also very fresh, generously cut and of top quality. Be sure the wash the meal down with one of their extensive range of sakes, I'd recommend the Dassai50 👌.
Overall this place was amazing and highly recommend this place 👍

A really nice venue.
We had just come home from Japan and missed the food, so we decided to try this venue.
Staff were extremely friendly and attentive, food portions were very good, and the food itself was exceptional.
They were also very kid friendly.
Great all round!
It is worth noting this type of experience is not cheap, but none the less, it is well worth it for a special occasion :)

It’s our new favourite Japanese buffet joint and possibly the best value in town with all you can eat wagyu, sashimi, and many other delicious dishes. We will definitely come back soon as my wife won’t stop talking about it.

Located on Lygon Street is the beautiful and minimalist Japanese restaurant - it’s a great place for group bookings and I absolutely love the all you can eat offer they have Monday - Wednesday. We were seated in the private dining area with our own grills at each table. To start, we enjoyed some sashimi and other entrees such as edamame. Enjoyed drinking sake while grilling our own wagyu, pork belly, ox tongue. All so delicious and tender. Will definitely be back again - thanks for the great night and service.

The cuts and variety of beef were excellent at Shinbashi. The wagu was well marbled and melted in your mouth. The place has a great ambiance and the staff were very hospitable.

Definitely bang for buck. Good quality meat and sashimi. Sides were good too. Try the sweet potato and cheese!
