Don Don

This little shop is honestly a hidden gem, I've actually calculated with a timer on how fast they prepare food, it literally takes 1-2mins maximum! It's faster than fast food and the best part is it's fresh food! Absolutely love it! Lastly, it's actually very cheap for the area! The most expensive meal is $13 per dish! Best for individuals who want a wholesome filling meal for a cheap price !

One of the oldest Japanese eatery in Melbourne which started as a small shop in front of the Melbourne state library and now they open a number of branch but unfortunately close their original shop.

Food wise is the same except that they introduce more variety such as the chicken kara age dishes.

However my favourite is still for their curry bbq chicken and their original teriyaki chicken.

We bought the chicken kara age variety as their original bbq chicken teriyaki and curry ran out 🙄

I love their karaage! Only 10dollars for a giant tub and delicious! Bento Box was also gr8 value for money. Weekend Is more expensive than weekdays.

This is the leas glamorous no frills outlet compared to the ones in the city. However the quality, tasty and its famous value for money reputation has been maintained. Outside dining is pleasant. Service is so fast and by the time we paid and sat down on our table, it was time to collect our orders! Great to catch up with friends and family without hurting your pocket.

Atmosphere is not so good , place is not for chilling or have friends of family meeting, but the food is so nice , authentic . Teriyaki chicken is delicious and udon noodles are perfect .

Food is always awesome and quick and good portions for the price. I always get takeaway from here.

Found this gem whilst waiting for the Blink-182 gig, as I wasn’t keen on paying the ridiculous price for food in the venue. Ordered the Chicken Karaage Curry Don and a Asahi. Came out within 10 mins or less and was astonished with the quality and quantity of the meal for such a low price. Was absolutely delicious and wanted more, but probably not a good idea before the gig….I’ll just have to go again next time. The venue is low key and no frills. Just the way I like it. Good honest, wholesome meals and no fuss.

This is one of my favourite spots for dinner. You order at the counter and within 2-5 minutes you have your food.

Fastest service I've ever encountered in my life. Food is good, and outstanding value considering the portions and price. Very busy lunchtime.

It's very tasty super quick and you are on your way in a lightening bolt. Well priced very busy all the time however some how the service is fast paced even when it's packed

Got the chicken karaage curry bowl and it was amazing. You definitely get a lot of food for the cheap price of the meal and the service was really fast!

The dishes are cheap, the service is quick, and the food tasted great for the price you're paying! Plenty of seats inside and few tables outside too. Highly recommend this place for a quick bite.

I love this place. The food is so fresh and tasty. Great value for money. You can't go wrong with any dish, but my favourite is the Japanese chicken curry. Cheap drinks, indoor and outdoor seating. Sometimes the line goes out the door, but they're so quick and efficient it doesn't take long to get your meal.
They have little tubs of chilli powder for free if your so inclined, just ask.

Always good food, extremely quick service and very cheap. Often queues at lunch though but maximum wait has been about 5 minutes. Outside or inside seating available. Can ask for double meat on every item too. Can suggest either the Don Don box, the teriyaki chicken or the beef. They accept credit cards now too as previously was cash only

Still good. $11.10 for Sukiyaki Don on a Sunday.

Can’t go wrong with this place, have been coming here for many years having the chicken curry Don and seen a few minor price rises, but it’s still so cheap and so satisfying. Can get busy at lunch times during the week but although the queue looks big, it goes quite quickly. To improve the dishes they could add some more vegetables and the tofu they use is a bit dry for the tofu curry.

Very efficient, takes almost no time to get in and takeaway. Dine in is not recommended, the place is often crowded during peak hours and the tables tend to get real messy around the time.

I'm usually picky for my own food but Japanese curry is authentic and reasonably priced, so impressed ! $8.60 for chicken curry with big chunk of grilled chicken, definitely go-to place for budget meals

I wasn’t expecting much from this little Japanese store when I was trying to find a bite to eat around the gardens south of the Yarra, but a WHOLE BENTO BOX FOR $10? If I worked nearby, I’d be here for every meal!
