Came here for the Melbourne comedy festival, ample parking in the backstreets, make sure you get there early, there are food trucks in the courtyard, bar servings cocktails, wine, beer and snacks. The theatres are beautiful, would really recommend this venue. Support the arts!

Such a beautiful space! I attended a function there. The afternoon sun streaming through the window was delicious.
There’s an outdoor area where you can catch up for a drink.
I’ve heard it’s popular with locals.

Malthouse outdoor theatre is the best! Service to your table, cool setting, not crowded and above all, outstanding performances - what more can you ask for!

Saw The Hour of The Wolf here back in October. Was absolutely blown away by the production and how much work would have gone into producing the show - fantastic work. The venue was also a cool place. Arrived early and had some drinks at the bar. Very friendly staff. Great work all round.

Lovely venue. Plenty of seats in the outdoor area while waiting for your show to start.
Professional, friendly and efficient staff.
Complimentary water are provided in the foyer and the courtyard. I wish they have provided glasses or recyclable cups instead of plastic cups.

If your into performance and theatre, this is an experience you definitely don’t want to miss out on. Something so incredibly different and innovative you wouldn’t have seen before.
Because The Night is a theatre show loosely based on Hamlet, however instead of the actors performing traditionally on a stage, they perform alongside you in rooms, where you are able to explore, walk through and watch at your own leisure. You cannot touch the actors and they cannot touch you, they simply perform like you aren’t there. Different scenes are performed at the same time, and you start by entering either the Gymnasium, Bedroom or Office (chosen at time of booking).
No phones or bags are allowed in, so the inside remains a mystery to you. You are given a mask and a cape to wear, and you must remain silent as you explore the rooms. We were astonished by how many rooms there actually were, we didn’t even get to see them all in the 90 minutes. We seemed to be fish out of water and a little confused as what we were meant to be doing, my advise is to follow the actors, and not delve too much into each room looking for answers to the story as we did. Enjoy the show, we highly recommend it!
Tickets can be purchased from the Malthouse Theatre website and were $120pp. Only 60 audience members per show.

Last night went to see 'Parrwang lifts the sky' by Victoria Opera written by Deborah Cheetham and conducted by Aaron Wyatt. Wow!! A simple legend brought to life through just 1 hour of beautiful music and singing. So impressive for a state opera.

Wow is all I can say. We experienced the hour of the Wolf - brilliant idea and super well executed. We're still processing it, and wish we had time to experience it again - it's that good. Set design is next level - how on earth did they do it??? The Malthouse is a great venue, and no effort spared on the hosting and ushering, which is logistically challenging with this production. Big shout out to all concerned - it's a triumph.

Beautiful outside venue! Great on a hot evening with friends, date or even by yourself. Plenty of tables but get there early to grab a good table.

This is one of the iconic theatre experiences in Melbourne. I'd you haven't had a chance to get out and experience the outdoor theatre such fun and engulfing experience. And drink and eat. It's fantastic. Thanks to all involved in bringing theatre back.

We had such a great time!!! We went there for "Because the night"!!!
What an amazing experience! We were fully immersed in the play, we could follow the actors around and see the scene as they were happening. During the play you can look for hints to see if you can solve the mystery!
