By the River Cafe

What a great spot on the mighty Macleay River, tables on the grass overlooking the river and the food was fantastic. Highly recommend the seafood chowder, it is byo you can get a bottle of wine up the road at the Gladstone hotel. The staff and owners are very welcoming and bubbly.

Found this place by accident one Sunday. Absolutely fantastic location. Food and service top class. Also pet friendly and owners were very lovely people. Would definitely go back again and highly recommend this place to all.

Such a special unique place. I love to get a table next to the river and watch the ever changing scenery of river flow bird and boats. Jo and her staff are lovely, hard working and friendly the food is awesome.

Havee been here for breakfast and now dinner. The Thai is wonderful, great view, great staff who don't mind a chat and a story... Food is absolutely wonderful the flavour in the dishes and the smelll mmmmm. Will be back for sure love the fish cakes and pad thai!

This is a friendly and hospitable Cafè right on the River at Gladstone. Meals are light but there are a selection of seafood dishes. There is a huge selection of delicious cakes, tarts and slices. Service good. There is outside seating on the riverbank and also indoors. Coffee is great and BYO drinks.

Once again our family enjoyed a wonderful lunch with delicious food and great service. This is one of my favourite places to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere, beautiful views and fresh, healthy food .

A true hidden treasure, nestled in a lazy bend of the mighty Macleay, just a stone's throw off the Pacific Highway. Wander through Catherine's quaint collection and be rewarded at the end with delicious creamy coffee courtesy of Carlos. The assortment of cakes and treats looked delicious, if only I wasn't allergic to bicarbonate of soda!!!!! 😕

This is a lovely cafe by the river in Gladstone, and now with the Kempsey bypass it's even easier to get to via the Southwest rocks off ramp. It is positioned behind an old church, which has quality hand made souvenirs and clothing for sale inside.
The cafe out the back has good coffee and food, while offering good shade on hot summer days and a great menu.

If travelling through Gladstone over the Xmas holidays it will likely be closed until the 2nd, however there are a few other options nearby, and it will likely be open on your return trip so you can stop by then.

A real juwel this place! Fine food and a good coffee. The view over the river is fantastic. Butterfly, Ibis and sometimes a dolphin catching fish in the river.

My partner and I stopped here on our way to SWR. We both had Devonshire Tea & the scones were absolutely beautiful so light & fluffy.
