Elm Cottage

We had a great time at Elm Cottage and highly recommend them to anyone searching for a relaxed, peaceful get away. We stayed in the River Cottage with four adults and four med/large dogs. There was heaps of room to hang out together as well as options for solitude throughout the property. The yard was huge and well fenced for dogs who are disinclined to jump/escape. The kitchen had everything we needed and there was a nice big dining table as well as a couple of outdoor seating/eating options. We had close, easy access to the river for swimming and watching the platypus colony across the bank. Would definitely visit again!

We stayed in the Blue Gum Cottage. Just the three of us including our four year old Labrador.
It was spotlessly clean, the bed was comfy and the shower was hot and strong. All the necessary bits and pieces needed for cooking were in the kitchen and the lounge/ TV room was very comfortable. The laundry looked functional, but unfortunately we weren't there long enough to need it.
The view from the balcony was spectacular, particularly early in the morning and at sunset.
The river is beautiful with gin clear water running over fast flowing, shallow rapids and slow flowing swimming holes. I even caught a small rainbow trout (quickly released). There is a fantastic picnic area right on the river, right in front of the cottage, accessed by a longish set of stairs or a gentle winding path.
Bird watchers will be astounded by the variety of bird species including the spectacular Rainbow Bee-eaters.

The property is very pet friendly, however, I would recommend that your dog have Excellent "Recall" as they have access to most of the property and could run 100s of meters in any direction. Also you will be sharing the paddocks with some sheep and some very curious cows. Yes, they will come over to see what you are up to. There are mown paths through the paddocks leading to different parts of the river and various interesting sculptures.
Leave at least three days to explore the property and five days to wind down to the relaxed pace of life.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Elm Cottages and will stay longer next time we visit.

What a beautiful part of the world! We spent 4 nights here in yellow box and blue gum with friends. Comfy beds, kitchens have everything you need and the river babbling in the background is beautiful. Loved sitting out on the deck at night, no lights, just watching the clouds flit across the sky exposing the stars. Looking forward to going back for another stay soon

I absolutely love it here, have been 3 times this year already and want to go again in the new year. Such a great experience, drive in say hello to Deborah and David, roll up and unload your stuff, then walk to the water and fish your hearts content.

The river is so full of trout that you can near on walk across the water on their backs. In my last visit I caught over 90 in 3 days, they all went back in to be caught by the next angler.

When you aren't fishing the cabins are so well appointed and comfortable and its just an amazing location and a relaxing atmosphere. I can not recommend this place enough. If they ever want to adopt me I'll come and live there in a heartbeat!

If you have trouble bagging a trout, ill be happy for a sponsored trip down there and I will get you on them no trouble !

Dog friendly accommodation, lots of space for me to run around in until I'm exhausted. Usually other nice doggies to play with and a river for cooling down in when it gets hot. My humans had a very relaxing time too.

A quiet and peaceful place to get away from the city. It is the second time we have been here and lobe it. Great for the dogs and a trout river for fishing or tubing.

We just had 4 days and 3 nights in River Cottage at Elm Cottages. We had the most amazing stay. Such beautiful countryside, the river is clean and beautiful, our dogs ran free and happy. Deb and Dave are so hospitable, friendly and accommodating. Beautiful peaceful setting where other people were on the property but you never saw anyone. So quiet and gorgeous. The Cabin was extremely clean and comfortable with everything you need. A definite must for us to go back and take the whole family with friends and their families

Just spent a week at Elm Cottages, Tumut with our dog Bonnie. We stayed in Blue Gum Cottage, it was very spacious for the 3 of us. Dog allowed inside, lovely king size bed. Our view to the river below our cottage was perfect. We were amazed at the mixture of bird life, the view of the river from every aspect of the property and the total relaxed feel about the place. There were so many places along the river frontage you could walk to.
Our hosts Deb and David make you feel very welcome and their hospitality was very much appreciated. We are definitely looking to go back again. Thank you Deb for organising Tom's Fly Fishing trip with Dave Hawthorne, who is a great instructor and Tom really appreciated his pointers and expertise.

What a brilliant place! We have been coming here as a couple or family group for more than 15 years. The property is beautiful- surrounded on three sides by the Goobragandra River and full of wildlife and places to relax or picnic. Dog and kid friendly but never crowded or noisy. You feel a 1000km from anywhere. The houses (not "rooms") have all mod cons and the beds are comfortable. Wifi and phone reception are excellent. Deb and Dave are perfect hosts.

I have lost count of how many stays I have had here over the years. It is the first place I think of when I just need to get away and chill. The owners are down to earth and incredibly respectful of their environment and I get to enjoy all of their hard work. The accommodation is always clean and well appointed and any extra needs happily met. The best parts are the tranquility, the sound of the river, the incredible bird life and of course the welcome mat out for the dogs to enjoy it all as part of the family.

we had a 5 night stay on blue gum cottage, 3 adults & our 2 dogs Lillie & milo. The cabin was cosy & clean, the views were amazing, listening to the river the wild life was so relaxing was so quite at night had the best night sleep beds were warm & comfortable.

Glorious location, private, dog-friendly, great bird watching, super comfortable and exceeds expectations.

We stayed in the River's Edge cottage - a solid, old, comfy place, with all the mod cons, just metres from the gentle and scenic Goobarragandra River. The front wood floor portion of the cottage can be closed off so humans and dogs can relax together and the dogs also have a beautiful, safe and fully fenced half acre to explore. The heating and bedding were perfect and every morning, the sun flooded the garden. We explored the Elm Cottage grounds, particularly around the river frontage, where the owners have thoughtfully planted native trees and bushes to encourage a wealth of honeyeaters, fairy-wrens, thornbills, finches and many others. The owners are friendly and welcoming and, at the same time, really gave us the space and privacy we were after. The entire site is absolutely beautiful. I don’t think I’ve ever sat in one place for so long, just taking in the beauty, the peace and the privacy. In our experience of seeking dog-friendly places, the Rivers Edge cottage absolutely exceeded expectations. The owners are also dog lovers and made it clear to us that our dogs were very welcome. This was wonderful. As bird watchers, the entire Elm Cottage grounds are truly a gem. My husband was thrilled to be able to photograph birds at Elm Cottage’s long and stunning river frontage, as well as after easy drives to other great birding sites. Anyone interested in native birds and plants will love it. Elm Cottage must be experienced to be appreciated.

My partner and I have just spent the best 4 days we have had in a very long time. The cottage we were in was great, comfort wise and location over looking the river. The serenity that surrounds Elm Cottage was brilliant. I could not recommend Elm Cottage any higher. As a matter of fact after this review is written I am contacting them to book another stay.

Deb and David went above and beyond to ensure our family was comfortable during our two week stay. River's Edge cottage and beautiful surroundings were perfect for our family. The kitchen was well equipped and we felt right at home. Looking forward to coming back.

We spent the last few days at the River Edge cottage at the Elm Cottage in Tumut and we had such a lovely and relaxing time. Dave and Deb the owners keep the area beautifully. We had our own private stretch of lovely, clean cool river to frolic in, a safe fenced, large and pretty yard area that our dog could run freely in and the whole family had a really plesant time. We recommend the place to families or couples and will visit again.

We stayed at Elm cottage for 2 nights during July 2020 and our experience was nothing short of perfect. Scenery was amazing, our 4 bedroom home was complete with absolutely everything available, beds were super comfy...honestly could not fault a single thing!
Dave and Deb, you guys are awesome! We look forward to visiting again very soon. Thank you for everything, this is a must for anyone thinking to visit Tumut!

Words cannot cover our joy and delight at being able to have holidays at Elm Cottage with our Golden Retriever, Clancy. We are all well and truly "over the hill" so find
the laid back, do your own thing atmosphere just right. Congratulations to Deb and Dave for creating such an unforgettable holiday experience.
