Alligator gorge is in the South Australia 60 min driving from Port Augusta. There will be 12 km unsealed road but not difficult.
In the sunny days the Gorge looks lightening in red. There are two walking loop. Two km return loops take two hours to finish. There are some stairs and the track underneath is level 3-4.

Magnificent short walk with a good climb to finish. Well worth the detour if travelling across country. Such a breathtaking place and friendly route - took us under an hour.

Fabulous walk. No rain over the past few months meant there was little water . But, the ochre hues and oranges were spectacular, especially in the morning sunlight.

A must-see destination on your travels to the Flinders Ranges.
A short hike from the car park, very peaceful in off-peak season.

Very nice walk through the gorge. The second half of the loop is just a long downhill fire trail which is a bit boring but the gorge itself is beautiful.

One of the best place I have visited in SA, nice trails with multiple lookouts. Highly recommended if visiting Flinders range

Among 2 lookouts and several trails here, I tried the “Narrows Hike”. It was masterpiece trail. A very strange set of rocks, abundant butterflies, flies and bees, rocky path and a very beautiful narrow path which makes you enjoy every step of yours. No idea if there could be a river on the path in rainy seasons, I went in a hot day and it was like 30. The trail is circuit and only half of it passes through mountain. It takes less than 2 hour to finish this trail if you are moderate walker

Camped in Mount Remarkable for our anniversary and made the trip around here for a walk. Busy on a Sunday but the weather was perfect. We loved it. Many photo ops and the colours were so pretty. Do recommend starting at Blue Gum and heading up towards the main car park and down the steep stairs (not finishing with the stairs) It would be absolutely amazing with a little water running through it.

A great place to visit. There are two lookouts at the top to look into the gorge. The main walk into the gorge is well worth the effort for people comfortable with lots of steps, very uneven surfaces and likely getting your feet wet (depending on recent rain).
There are two main carparks both with picnic tables and toilets. The lower carpark gives you access to the gorge with less steps as a return walk.

Use the road itself to access the car park is gorgeous, going up and down with awesome views. Watch out for dips going back up as they're not as visible as going down; a lot of people scratched the bottom of their car by the looks of it.
There's different walks: 2 very short ones to the lookouts and 2 longer ones down in the gorge. There's some stairs to access the narrows: it is very beautiful down there and well worth the effort.

A truly amazing place only over 3 hours from Adelaide.
The short walk into the gorge from the carpark is down 250 steps and reasonably steep. You can walk in through the Emu Flat picnic area which you can drive to or take the short walk. This is much easier than the steps and the way we went.
The natural beauty is spectacular and is well worth the effort to at least visit the Narrows.

Incredible gorge when you get to the bottom of the stairs from the top carpark don’t forget to go right fist so you don’t miss terraces
The narrows is one of the best and more challenging parts
If it’s rained or it’s the wetter months the water can make in impassable without getting wet shoes

Great walking spots. If heading down into the gorge there are 249 stones steps to negotiate. Thanks for the 3 seats on the way to rest at. The walk to the Narrows ( head left once at the bottom) is fantastic. Enjoy.
The drive in the NP is steep and caravans are NOT permitted.

Alligator Gorge is just superb. I haven't been bushwalking in years and seeing such a gorgeous diorama of amazing stone and vivid, spectacular bush just blew my mind. It has rekindled a love of the outdoors. Absolutely spectacular. Keep in mind there are walking trails of different lengths and difficulty, so you can go easy or challenge yourself. I found out I was less fit than I thought. This place is really worth making an effort to see.

A beautiful gorge near Willmington in SA. We did the circuit hike from the lower carpark which ascends 6kms to a turn off at the top through the stunning gorge. There are red cliffs, & lots of greenery & moss either side as you meander through the rocky trail. Well worth the visit

Steps at the start of the short loop walk are very steep but have handrails.

The descent is totally worth it as you make your way to the Narrows. Absolutely beautiful. So peaceful and surrounded by a true natural wonder.

Absolutely stunning - even in the middle of summer. We’ve already made plans to come back in the winter or autumn after a bit of rain because it would make this gorge and hike that little bit extra magical. The hike wasn’t too strenuous but walking across rocks may prove challenging for some

Nice trek through the gore. Steep steps going down from the top carpark. Much easier from the bottom carpark.

Incredible! And totally worth it. However during the time of the year when water flows through the channel, this place looks even more beautiful.
